Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Quality Control Microbiology Technician II in our viral vector manufacturing facility located in Oceanside, CA. You will work with the Quality Control team in supporting our efforts in this exciting new area of cancer immunotherapy.

The Quality Control Microbiology Technician II, under minimal supervision, will perform a broad range of activities to support the release of viral vector drug substances for clinical and commercial use.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform environmental monitoring of cleanrooms and support review as needed

  • Collect water samples to ensure all sample collected per schedule and complete review in

  • timely manner

  • Perform and review microbiological assays such as Gram Stain, Endotoxin, Sterility,

  • Microbial Identification, Growth Promotion, Bioburden and Plate Reading

  • Data entry and trend data as needed and prepare slides for management for quarterly

  • review as assigned

  • Assist in investigations regarding out of specifications (OOS) results, address and manage

  • deviations related to micro procedures.

  • Routine maintenance of lab equipment and lab spaces

  • Support how to troubleshoot and remediate non-routine issues.

  • Helps maintain a safe work environment by working in accordance with all safety SOPs

  • Train new hire for QC micro routine operations as needed

  • Ensures assigned tasks are completed on time, while adhering to operational standards and

  • regulatory requirements.

  • Additional duties as assigned

  • These duties can be delegated to designated deputies of a satisfactory qualification level as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR

  • AA Degree and 2+ years’ experience in the application of microbiological techniques OR

  • High School Degree and 3+ years’ experience in the application of microbiological techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to pass vision exam for visual inspection

  • Environmental Monitoring experience

  • Experience in the application of microbiological techniques such as air monitoring, water testing, surface monitoring, genus and species identification of various microbes

  • Ability to gown for entry into Aseptic core and supporting areas, and lift approximately 25 lbs.

  • Knowledge of basic lab testing techniques

  • Knowledge of GMP, SOPs and quality control processes

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and other applications

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

  • Ability to be flexible with schedule, and work overtime as needed

The salary range for this position is: $64,600.00 - $83,600.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
