Job Overview:
Aerotek is hiring Shipfitters for Huntington Ingalls at their yard located in Newport News, VA. This will be for a 2 year contract with the largest Shipbuilder in the world!
Job Responsibilities:
Understand shipyard operation and safety protocol.
Fitting, setting, and installing fabricated maritime structures.
Cutting and welding with a variety of processes.
Metal forming, bending, finishing, and rigging.
Ability to weld, repair, design, and layout plate or pipe materials.
Ability to work in shop/field environments and sometimes heights.
Qualifications:
Four years commercial/naval experience as a first class Shipfitter.
Metal fabrication, structural fitting experience.
Experience tack welding, stick welding, burning, carbon arc gouging, using torches.
Required Skills:
Single Pass Tack Welding.
Burning-Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch.
Heating-Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
Ability to comprehend complex drawings and blueprints.
Work Environment/Shift:
Shipyard environment. Newport News is the largest shipyard in the world, with the yard spanning over 5 miles long. There will be shuttles for maneuvering around the yard.
It get's HOT in the summer and COLD in the winter. Be prepared to work in all elements.
MUST BE WILLING TO WORK EVERY SHIFT (1st/2nd/3rd).
