Job Summary

This position will have overall responsibility for Logistics & Distribution Continuous Improvement and Program/Project Management work streams and will lead the logistics & distribution function transition into Lean Methodologies & Technology driven operations. This position is responsible for leading the investigation, planning, and implementation of the more complex improvements in and/or additions to current logistics & distribution processes that directly affects safety, quality and productivity with the end result of shipping product to customers more efficiently. As the scope of this initiative is across all of TMC logistics & distribution, you will collaborate with all functions and departments, at all levels, as well as other sites.

The position draws on the entire spectrum of lean and continuous improvement principles as well as Program/Project management skills to provide operational excellence input in the establishment of significant strategic value to the organization. Working with Leadership and cross-functional teams, the position has responsibility for the management and execution of the logistics & distribution operational excellence program, developing and maintaining the resources necessary for executing the operational excellence strategy, the operational excellence training curriculum, and for providing input to managers for their associates' operational excellence development planning.

This position will assign, delegate, and assist in providing Operational Excellence-related activities or projects logistics & distribution associates and have direct reports. Ensures compliance to Terumo’s quality policy, rapid response to logistics & distribution process flow issues, and assist/lead continuous improvement kaizen event activities.

The work performed affects the work of logistics & distribution, quality assurance, the impression of our product on customers, and the overall cost savings/profits to the Company.

Job Details/Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the Logistics & Distribution Operational Excellence & Project Management work stream that will provide strategic leadership and, act as collaborative change agent with a global and innovative approach, delivering timely results aligned with TMC L&D Global objectives and transforming the NA Distribution Network into a world-class organization. The team includes industrial engineer, black belts, and systems analysts that are involved in the day-to-day lean transformation and continuous improvement efforts across our DC network.

  • Drive process optimization initiatives within L&D, maximizing customer service and introducing new capabilities while continuously improving performance in operating costs, asset utilization, quality, and compliance.

  • Support, influence, and facilitate strategy development; structure projects into programs and create a plan for efficient and effective implementation.

  • Observes and evaluates industry trends, benchmarks operations against industry performance. Utilizes market trends and internal/external competitive benchmarks to identify differentiators of supply chain performance.

  • Maintain and enhance the supply chain IT strategy; ensure linkages with Sales, Marketing, Medtronic manufacturing sites, Suppliers, and Contract Manufacturers, and Customer Service.

Enabling and driving execution you will:

  • Assess multiple opportunities and determine project sequencing based on business priorities and interdependencies; develop project structures that are executable and complimentary to other projects and programs.

  • Develop and execute a road map of L&D Continuous Improvement initiatives in collaboration with Business Units, Regions, and TMC PMO, Quality team members to optimize Terumo’s position relative to quality, asset management, cost, lead-time/responsiveness, risk management, and technology, in support of Terumo’s innovation, growth and profitability objectives.

  • Develop a process for regular project and program reviews to gain stakeholder alignment, report on project progress to goals uncovering issues and opportunities to be resolved and/ or escalated.

  • Define annual plans (cost, efficiency, headcount, investments, organization) and business performance objectives and implement metrics and scorecards to ensure we meet or exceed our expectations Provide OPEX & CI Annual Operating Plan with updated strategic plans and manage spending in alignment with the plan and operating priorities.

Supporting associate engagement, you will:

  • Build and maintain collaborative working relationships, successfully managing cross-functional business partners and internal customers through influence leadership; gain input and ownership for strategies, initiatives, projects, and programs.

  • Recruit, develop, manage, and coach all team members (including project managers and functional matter experts) creating high-performing teams. This includes individual development planning, mentoring, succession planning, and creating a positive working environment that enables inclusion, high productivity, and employee engagement.

  • Drive adoption of project management tools and principles including Lean Sigma, Change Acceleration Program (CAP), Standard Project Management. Actively monitor projects to assess scope, resources, time, budget, and risk.

  • Evaluate, create, and drive standard "best practice" processes and continuously improve/ leverage existing processes. Manage deployment and adoption of new processes utilizing effective and efficient tools/ templates.

  • Manage and support a team of associates within the Logistics & Distribution Operations Excellence and Project Management team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, in fast paced environment, while maintaining schedules and attention to detail

  • Knowledge of industry techniques, tools, and best practices

  • Industry experience in Industrial Distribution, Manufacturing and/or Engineering a plus

  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, is required.

Qualifications/ Background Experiences

  • BS in Industrial or Process Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field OR an equivalent combination of education & experience.

  • 4 years’ experience in a logistics & distribution environment for designing, specifying and implementing logistics & distribution equipment layout for maximum efficiency in process flow; improve and validate logistics & distribution processes.

  • Six Sigma, Lean Methodologies Certification

  • PMP or equivalent certification is a plus.

  • Experience BI/Reporting tools, ERP Systems, project management software, and SQL a plus.
