Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Baxter Safe Haven is a transitional housing residence for unsheltered adults. Goddard Riverside Community Center is committed to building community and enhancing the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers by meeting essential human needs.

Purpose of Position: Assist tenants in the development of daily independent living skills, including assisting with laundry, personal hygiene and providing meals • Maintain attendance and monitor status of clients • Receive meal deliveries and maintain kitchen • Perform client intakes and provide an orientation of the facility at check in • Document intakes, bed swaps, attendance and incident reports via CARES.

Schedule:Sunday through Thursday 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Salary Range: $31,164-$38,955

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

  • Establish and cultivate professional and positive working relationships with residents.

  • Utilize evidence-based practice models including person centered planning, motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, culturally sensitive, and strengths-based approach are utilized.

  • Complete regular and routine check-in’s of resident and inspections of the facility, including nightly bed counts

  • Ensure compliance with all health, fire, and safety codes, ensure timely handling of all violations, prevent violations whenever possible.

  • Participate in staff meetings where resident issues, operations, policies, procedures, and program outcomes are discussed.

  • Cofacilitate and participate in groups/workshops with clinical staff

  • Assist in the monitoring and development of resident’s daily independent living skills (individually or in groups)

  • Conduct intakes during evenings, overnights, and weekends as needed.

  • Document in CARES intake system and ensure all clients are admitted in a timely fashion.

  • Provide daily food service (heat and serve) and ensure food delivery is stored immediately.

  • Manage operations desk: ensure documentation of client whereabouts, answer phones when necessary.

  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the building and monitor common areas.

  • Work collaboratively with building staff to assist tenants and ensure tenant safety.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/ Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.

  • 1-2 years of applicable experience in shelter or residential setting preferred

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.

  • Food Protection Certificate will be required.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records, to prepare and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner Knowledge of DHS requirements and protocols strongly preferred.

  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy, discretion, patience and understanding.

  • Must be able to multitask with strong organizational skills.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Prior work experience with homeless/ mentally ill individuals is helpful, but not required

  • Detail orientated and systems savvy.

  • Compassionate and personable

  • Team-orientated

  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, OneDrive Excel, etc.

  • Able to use or learn multiple databases including CARES.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, climbing, and lifting to 50 lbs.

  • Work Environment

  • Facility grounds, work site is in a residential building.

  • Warming Kitchen

  • Occasional visits to client rooms

  • Escort residents to appointments

  • Outdoor work required.

The union represents employees in the bargaining unit (i.e. Goddard employees in Local 74 union positions). The Collective Bargaining Agreement is a written contract that defines the agreed-upon terms and conditions of employment, including wage increases, paid time off and other benefits, and the grievance process. All employees in Local 74 union positions at Goddard Riverside are subject to and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Membership in the union includes the collection of union dues on a monthly basis, to be deducted from the member’s Goddard paycheck at a rate to be determined by the union.
