Your contribution

Raymarine aims to be number one in the world for marine-based electronics. We have an extensive range of well-designed reliable products which include Sailing Instruments and Chartplotter displays through to high end Sonar and Radar, all using state of the art technology. Using the latest CAD tools, you will be working with a team of experienced designers to develop our latest ranges of products. You will be expected to fit into a project team, use your excellent communication skills and have a manner that enables you to work closely with other design disciplines.

Your mechanical design skills will be well developed enabling you to start complex designs from the outset. You will have the opportunity to design a variety of products from complex high powered display platforms through to RADAR and PTZ cameras. Knowledge of designing for harsh environments is essential, and your skills should include injection molding, machined and cast metal parts, PCB integration, developing initial concept ideas through to high volume manufacturing. You will be encouraged and have the freedom to improve processes and systems and look to the future for new technologies.

This job is for you if you have an excellent eye for detail, can multitask on more than one design at a time, like working in a dynamic fast-moving environment and get satisfaction seeing the completed product in the shops or on boats in and around the water.

Your job in plain text:

  • You will be responsible for the complete mechanical design process from initial concept through to high volume manufacture and will be expected to make complex design decisions along the way.

This will encompass: -

  • Development and delivery of the mechanical design in line with project requirements.

  • Creating 3D CAD data and 2D Drawings for manufacture.

  • Ensuring product quality using best practice techniques e.g. DFMEA, DfM, GD&T.

  • Preparation of Verification and Validation test plans.

  • Managing timescales and cost in line with the Project plan.

  • Working closely with the Project Manager, Hardware design and Test teams.

To be ready to take on this role we would love if you have: -

  • Minimum BSc/BEng in Mechanical Design Engineering.

  • Experienced with Solidworks.

  • Experienced with the following manufacturing techniques; Casting, Injection Moulding, Machining.

  • Knowledge of Design for Quality techniques and tools.

  • Experience in ‘Design for Manufacture’ in a high-volume industry.

  • Experience in design and testing for harsh environments, including sealing, corrosion resistance and vibration.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

  • Willing to work with the team in the office 4 days a week.

  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
