Job Overview:

The senior electrical engineer role includes electrical design and analysis of an assigned scope of work in a McDermott project including specific complex deliverables such as power generation systems, substation & power distribution systems and lighting & grounding systems. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, voltage drop calculations, specification development and electrical one-line diagrams. Is able to effectively communicate technical solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers. Maintains and promotes a focus on McDermott end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Ensures effective management of change. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget control.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards of an assigned scope of work in a company project, including specific complex deliverables

  • Requisition Engineer for electrical equipment and responsible for the electrical content for several packaged mechanical equipment in an EPC project

  • Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations

  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures

  • Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area

  • Clearly communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understanding

  • Proven technical experience in an EPC project in the oil & gas or renewable industries and able to work with minimal supervision

  • Proven experience as Requisition Engineer for major electrical equipment including specification, bid analysis and detail design development

  • Proven experience of electrical content for major rotating mechanical equipment

  • Proven experience of writing technical documentation including reports, standards, specifications, philosophies

  • Experience in responding to client/third party comments on technical documents including specifications and datasheets

  • Reports progress of the work and able to be responsible for planning and estimating

  • Be fully familiar with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues

  • Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, including providing any necessary supporting documentation and estimates. Provide similar support for Variation Orders

  • Interface with all disciplines and departments. Maintaining close co-ordination with other engineering disciplines, Planning, Fabrication, Marine, and Project Management Team, as required

  • Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager

  • Raise technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and to maintain preferred McDermott procedures, specifications, standards, practices and operational requirements

  • Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings and engineering meetings, as required

  • Assist in providing necessary design inputs to other disciplines to enable them in proceeding with their deliverables

  • Assist procurement personnel in procuring Discipline equipment, materials and services; ensuring that work produced complies with Customer objectives and procedures. Procurement assistance includes preparing and reviewing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations and preparing queries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations, preparing purchase requisitions, and coordinating with Procurement to expedite vendor documents, as directed by Discipline Lead Engineer

  • Review vendor documentation, checking for compliance with project specifications and providing comments as necessary

  • Check final vendor data manuals to ensure that all requested data has been received and approved

  • Keep the Lead Engineer apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary and manpower related

  • Capture lessons learned and enter into MDR's Lessons Learned system

  • Be aware of costs related to own work and of the discipline

  • Prepare/ review one-line diagrams and schematics diagrams

  • Participate in FAT & inspection and preparation & resolution of punch lists

  • Shows flexibility and willingness to help colleagues during heavy workload periods, holiday or, illness cover

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Must have a Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering. (Master Degree is Preferred)

  • Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society

  • Typically has 10-15 years of detail electrical engineering experience

  • Must have a working knowledge of IEC standards and codes

  • Is current on new scientific engineering methods and possesses a technical knowledge of the detail design engineering process

  • Must demonstrate leadership, social and IT skills. Is capable of appropriate use of computer applications and other specialized engineering tools

  • Proficient in English, both oral and written

  • Able to work independently

  • Good Communication skills (meetings, reporting)

  • Capable of working under pressure

  • Able to interact with other discipline
