Special Information
- Camp Nurse will be expected to be in overnight duration of the camp
from the morning of June 4, 2024 - June 8, 2024.
- Suite style accomodations will be provided with the nurse having
their own room, sharing a restroom with another camp counselor.
Job Description
The Kitt School of Music is hiring one overnight nurse for the Curry
Music Camp. The NAU Curry Summer Music Camp is proud to return this year
as a 5-day, musical mountain experience for choir, band, and orchestra
students from Arizona and all around the Southwestern United States.
Camp dates for 2024 are Tuesday June 4, 2024 - Saturday June 8, 2024.
This position will live on campus during camp dates.
The Camp Nurse is responsible for collaborating with other staff to
ensure the health and safety of all student participants. The Camp Nurse
lives in the dorm and is responsible for reviewing students\' medical
information as provided in their applications, administering
prescription medications on set schedule and attending to any medical
conditions of students while they are on campus. The Camp Nurse is also
available to evaluate any medical needs or emergencies that arise and
make recommendations for treatment.
Job Duties and Responsibilites
Medical Support - 75%
- Administer morning, midday/afternoon and evening medications in
office during established times as needed; document (chart) all
medications administered.
- Attend administrative meetings, as requested.
- Promote student and staff sensitivity to students with special
needs.
- Administer requested over-the-counter medications, as needed;
document (chart) all medications administered.
- In the event of a medical emergency, work with the NAU Health &
Learning Center, local providers, and appropriate staff members to
coordinate rapid response and transportation, per established
protocol; chart actions taken.
- Complete/process Concern/Incident/Medical Report Forms, when the
need arises and ensure forms are completed according to protocol.
- As requested by program administrators, call and confer with parents
of students who are experiencing medical difficulty.
- Secure the approval for any and all expenditures and submit receipts
to the Fiscal Operations Assistant for any authorized charges.
- Will remain on premises and on-call overnight, for any emergencies
or support needed.
- Complies with HIPAA/FERPA regulations; demonstrates confidentiality,
sensitivity, and concern during all patient interactions.
- Assures the protection of self, patients, and co-workers from undue
exposure to infectious diseases, contaminated waste and hazardous
materials.
Medical Preparation - 25%
- Review all student applications for medical information,
cross-referencing to excel spreadsheet of all students\' insurance
information, medical needs, prescription dosages and times,
over-the-counter medicine approvals, allergies and special
instructions,\' making additions/corrections to spreadsheet as
needed.
- Review, and update as needed, the Concern/Incident/Medical R port
Form.
- Prepare a Log/Chart for tracking/documenting all prescription and
medications administered to students during the Program.
- Inventory supplies on hand; prepare list of needed OTC meds and
first aid supplies; provide list to staff so purchases can be made.
- Work with Staff to finalize procedures and policies for
administration of medicines and medical attention, including how
medications will be administered off-site, at night, etc., based on
students\' medical needs.
- Establish a system for staff to log in name of medication, time
administered and dosage they administer
- Assist Staff to review and update protocol for handling medical
emergencies.
- Prepare/stock first-aid kits for the residence halls, classrooms,
and field trips, if needed
- Prepare staff orientation presentation and materials.
- Collect medications from coordinators / chaperones upon arrival to
the Mountain Campus; ensure they are properly labeled and secured.
Other duties as assigned - 5%
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
- 1-2 years of nursing experience.
- Registered Nursing license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
- Current BLS certification.
