Special Information
This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to
complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with or

Job Description
Student Employment is critical to providing oversight and support for
student employees and their supervisors across the university. The job
expectations of the role include establishing and assisting with
processes and procedures for student employees and employers in areas
including training, professional development, annual appraisals,
recognition, and classification and compensation. This position is
responsible for group training, workshops, and job fairs to support both
students and student employee supervisors at NAU. This position works
closely in collaboration with Human Resources, Office of Scholarship and
Financial Aid, and other campus-wide student employee stakeholders to
ensure equitable hiring and quality experiences for all NAU student
employees.
Student Employment Learning & Development - 30%
Professional Development (Work+)
- Create and facilitate training that helps students identify the
career readiness competencies, functional, and transferable skills
gained through student employment, clubs/orgs, internships, and
additional experiential and co-curricular opportunities and support
in their articulation of these skills in relation to their overall
career readiness.
- Collaborate with Career Programming team to liaison with specific
campus partners such as clubs/orgs and student employers.
- Provide training for NAU student employee supervisors on best
practices and targeted topics related to onboarding, training,
ongoing supervision, student employee lifecycle support,
development, and career readiness.
- Advise and consult with supervisors to provide guidelines, tools,
and templates to ensure student employees have a consistent,
compliant employment experience that prepares them for life after
graduation.
- Ensure processes and procedures align to the university strategic
priorities.
- Collaboratively manage Career Closet, including organization of
clothes and spaces, coordinating clothing drives, marketing and
communication about resource, and partnering across campus.
Recognition
- Collaboratively manage recognition of student employees and their
supervisors with annual (Spring) awards, Student Employee of the
Year, Student Employee Supervisor of the Year, and Student Employee
Team of the Year.
- Manage award nomination process, committee selection, marketing and
communication, selection of award winners through matrixing,
procurement of awards, and celebration ceremony/delivery of awards
to winners.
Team Management & Supervision - 20%
- Directly supervise Career Development student staff (Career Jacks)
including recruitment, selection, training, onboarding, development,
supervision, and evaluation of all team members.
- Lead weekly team meetings with planned agendas and developmental
focus.
- Meet with each Career Jack on a regular basis to assess needs and
provide ongoing supervision.
- Create, develop, and maintain standard operating procedures and
processes to address continued changes occurring within Career
Development and directly impacting work and job responsibilities of
CJs.
- Manage appropriate training to address changes in process and needs
of the department.
Administer Student Employment Classification Program - 15%
Classification & Compensation
Manage communications through Student Employment email inbox as first
level of support with Human Resources (HR) partners, student employee
supervisors, and additional stakeholders throughout classification
process.
Refer supervisors to appropriate partners/steps in the classification
and onboarding process.
Act as one of three reviewers in centralized classification of all NAU
student employee positions.
Utilize matrix of category descriptions and respective wage levels to
ensure consistent and equitable classification and compensation of all
student employees.
Act as student wage and classification expert when advocating for
continued increases in lowest paid wages and overall impacts to
compensation scale for student employees in collaboration with
university leadership.
