ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Operates and performs preventative maintenance on various construction equipment including but not limited to hand tools, power tools, tamps quick cut saws, air hammers, mowers, etc.
Performs heavy manual labor such as: digging, lifting, hauling, spraying, etc.
Operates cement mixer and sets concrete formwork.
Places, shovels, and finishes concrete and asphalt.
Drives vehicles and operates heavy and light equipment.
Lays and repairs water, sewer, and stormwater pipes and structures.
Assists in installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
Performs landscape installation and maintenance.
Mows athletic fields, parks, and recreation centers.
Fertilizes and treats grounds.
Operates a tractor, front-end loader, and other equipment as required.
Performs minor preventative and emergency maintenance on various kinds of equipment.
Operates edger, blower, hedge trimmer, etc.; trims trees, bushes, and scrubs.
Apply insecticide and herbicides.
Performs repairs to picnic tables, benches, bleachers, and parking rails.
Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years of related manual labor experience with preference given to experience in construction related tasks.
Special Qualifications:
May be required to possess a valid Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's License (within 6 months of hire).
May require Florida Department of Environmental Protection Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector (Streets and Stormwater only within 12 months of hire).
Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T.) Certification - Intermediate required (within 12 months of hire).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of general maintenance tasks and procedures.
Knowledge of landscaping, irrigation, maintenance, and installation.
Knowledge of construction terminology.
Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and warning labels.
Skill in operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position.
Skill in minor carpentry maintenance tasks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required:
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
Climbing: Ascending or escending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
Hearing 1: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.

Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
