This position is being offered in conjunction with ACEC/PA’s TQI Shared Intern Program. ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies) is a professional organization which promotes the improving infrastructure that drives quality of life and economic growth. As a part of this program, the candidate would have the unique opportunity to learn from leaders inside and outside of JMT, including some of our main clients, such as PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), in addition to other consulting engineering firm partnered through ACEC/PA.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Assist with project management support, providing quality assurance reviews on construction projects to ensure assignments are conducted in conformance to contract documents
Investigating new project pursuits by gathering information regarding field construction issues and assist in determining potential solutions and recommendations
Assist client and inspection team with onsite inspection and documentation of construction activities
Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
Gathers and maintains construction records including correspondence, contractor documents, meeting minutes, daily inspection reports, specifications, non-compliance notices, etc.
Other related construction management support functions as needed
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities
Witness routine sampling and tests on concrete, soils and other materials
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required SkillsRequired Experience
Full time undergraduate student (completed Freshman level) pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related major
High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience)
Strong Computer proficiency
Active driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle
Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Qualifications preferred (but not required)
- Coursework in related field
Working Conditions
Work is performed within office and field environments (varies with each assignment). Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
