Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms [advanced] and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, projectdevelopment and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicablefederal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials andprivate entities. [Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues arerarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence].Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer II:Assists district and division personnel on material and/or fabrication requirements and advises of appropriate materialand/or fabrication application and acceptability.Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technicalsupport.Investigates materials failures or fabrication problems; reviews test data and assists in determining cause of failingmaterials.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, specialspecifications or special provisions.Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.Transportation Engineer III (additional duties including Transportation Engineer II):Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
