Overview of the Position:

Ensure creation of accurate and timely financial records and reporting for the organization in compliance with all regulatory and internal reporting requirements. Oversee key aspects of the monthly and annual closing process, including coordinating and executing account reconciliations, and analyzing general ledger activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Month-end and year-end closing procedures; including preparation and/or review of journal entries, ensuring proper support according to procedures and controls. Conduct and/or review account reconciliations for multiple locations.

  • Compile financial statement details for management and corporate review and analysis. Assist in preparation of month-end schedules and reports to support internal reporting needs and report the general finances of the establishment.

  • Develop, implement, modify, and document record-keeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology.

  • Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting (SOX) including appropriate supporting documentation.

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.

  • Review procedures and assist with creation and maintenance of procedures manual; promote process improvement within the department and throughout the organization.

  • May supervise and guide lower-level accountants.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), accounting software and databases.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and be collaborative in nature, to include mentoring others within the department.

    Education / Experience Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA preferred but not required.

    Mathematical Skills : Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
