Job Summary

To work alone as an afternoon troubleman; to work as a Lineman 1st Class. Assist with construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of the company's transmission and distribution systems. Work energized lines up to a nominal 13,200 volts. Trouble-shoot problems (overhead & underground) from primary lines and devices down to customer service panels. Position is eligible for a Retention/Performance Bonus based on earnings.

Primary shift hours for this role will be 11:00am - 7:30pm

Duties and Responsibilities

  • While working alone or with other linemen, respond to trouble reports, assess/diagnose the situation, recommend solutions, and safely restore service and/or make the condition safe to the public. When a trouble condition requires additional resources to correct, the Lineman 1st Class - Utility will make that determination and call for the manpower, equipment and materials required and then direct the repair effort. Perform single man switching per UGI guidelines to sectionalize and restore service. Communicate with customers and electricians to resolve electrical issues.

  • Operate and maintain the transmission and distribution systems; work includes but is not limited to overhead (OH) primary extensions, OH secondary extensions, OH transformer banks, CT metering, single and three-phase capacitor banks both switched and fixed, single and three-phase oil and vacuum circuit reclosers, switching and tagging, OH services, street and outdoor lighting, main breakers and associated equipment on Company owned electric services (COS).

  • Operate and maintain the underground (UG) distribution system; work includes but is not limited to 600A UG system installed in industrial parks, S&C switches, 600 A terminations & splices, 200A UG

  • distribution system, cable elbows, terminators, splices, single and three phase pad mount transformers, UG secondary & services, UG lighting.

  • System restoration: work includes but is not limited to responding to callouts 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. As an employee of a utility, it is understood that overtime and responding to the callouts are part of the job and part of each employee's responsibility. Call out response greater than 50% expected.

  • Update and maintain company records including but not limited to work orders and time keeping in both written and electronic form.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of approved methods, materials, and tools used in electric line work.

  • Knowledge of the principles of electric theory which apply to electric distribution and transmission systems and the hazards of live line work and safety of the procedures to be used.

  • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions; ability to climb up onto and down from equipment.

  • Must reside not more than 45 mins. from Forty Fort, PA office.

  • Be proficient with the use of electronic devices and maintain various records, reports, and forms regarding payroll, materials used, and condition of plant, tools, and equipment.

  • Must possess the coordination and manual dexterity necessary to climb poles, operate hand and power tools and equipment utilized in the upkeep, repair, and maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to deal with the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.

  • Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to operate various types of industry-specific equipment such as, but not limited to, bucket trucks, material handlers, stake body trucks with lift gates and elevating platforms.

  • Must be safety-minded and possess the knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and safety-related work practices common to electric utility work (i.e., OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269(a)2(iii), NESC). Be able to learn and apply Company rules and procedures (including company safety rules) to the job function.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervision, co-workers, contractors, and customers.

  • Knowledge of company construction standards and procedures, including switching and tagging.

  • Ability to work irregularly scheduled hours.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience - Minimum of 4 years' experience as a Lineman Second Class, or equivalent, and one year in training for Lineman First Class.

  • 1st class Journeyman Lineman Certificate and successful completion of a recognized Lineman Apprenticeship.

  • Valid PA Commercial Driver’s License Class A, air brake restriction removed.

  • Pole Top Rescue, Bucket Truck Rescue, CPR, First Aid, Equi-Potential Grounding, Buck Squeeze, OSHA 10 Hr.

  • Must be familiar with electrical fundamentals and system electrical layout and characteristics.

  • Read and interpret operating orders, blueprints, and sketches, and knows both normal and emergency operating orders and prac¬tices; is responsible for exercising good judgment whether sit¬uation is covered by instructions or not.

  • DOT Health Certificate.
