Job Title: Technician
Summary:The Technician will work under immediate supervision, on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, to prepare chemicals and develop processes on laboratory and pilot scale, according to established guidelines. Normally receives minimal instruction on routine work and general instructions on new assignments. Conducts laboratory and pilot scale chemical syntheses, chemical process development, chemical analyses, maintains laboratory equipment, performs limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments. Generates and records appropriate data, performs calculations and completes necessary documentation.
Responsibilities Include:
Conducts chemical analysis, chemical syntheses, and laboratory experiments as part of process development.
Performs routine testing by chemical, instrumental, and physical testing procedures.
With guidance, operates pilot scale equipment.
Records experimental observations and results and maintains accurate documentation in conjunction with protocols and procedures.
Performs data analysis and writes reports using MS Word and MS Excel.
Completes as necessary customary documentation and enters test data into records or systems as required.
Performs routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure compliance with normal procedures and standards.
Contributes to the department and plant Environmental Health and Safety goals.
Performs routine inspections and audits as required.
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related technical field OR an Associate's degree in Chemistry or a related technical field with 2+ years of laboratory experience.
Strong personal and professional commitment to Environmental Health and Safety which includes wearing personal protective equipment and performing lab experiments with the utmost attention to safety.
Working knowledge of PC functions and Microsoft Office.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions coupled with the ability to work independently.
Strong oral and written skills and good interpersonal skills and teamwork.
Solid mathematical and reading skills and ability to safely multi-task.
The following are preferred for this role
Prior hands-on chemistry laboratory experience
Prior experience in a chemical plant
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb, twist, turn, grasp, and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Hearing, sight to include depth perception and color vision, and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Occasional lifting and moving up to 50 lbs. and the ability to comply with PPE requirements (ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for certain positions/locations). The environment for this position is a Manufacturing setting, with exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noise. Candidates should be able to adapt to a traditional business environment.
