Tanaq Support Services (TSS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. TSS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders.

About the Role

We are seeking a Public Health Advisor II to serve as a resource and provide technical and intellectual support to the development and implementation of a Tribal Implementation Center under the Public Health Data Modernization Program. The center will provide technical assistance and aid Tribes and Tribal organizations in data modernization efforts while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

This is a fully remote position that can be based in Atlanta, GA or anywhere in the U.S. Some travel (15% of time) may be required to various locations in the U.S. to attend meetings, conferences, etc. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to the Tribal Implementation Center under the Public Health Data Modernization Program activities to build capacity and conduct training.

  • Work with Tribes and Tribal organizations while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

  • Participate in the design and development of trainings, training toolkits, communication materials and tools, and technical assistance activities.

  • Assist with program management initiatives related to capacity building activities and cooperative agreement responsibilities, including administrative and logistic aspects of coordinating the program activities.

  • Research, review, analyze and interpret program data and suggest improvements and strategies to guide program development and implementation.

  • Create clear and accurate written summaries, timelines and figures detailing findings.

  • Participate in the strategic planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

  • Build relationships with established subject matter experts in applicable functional areas as well as identify and establish new relationships with trusted partners, as needed.

  • Initiate and work collaboratively with peers representing a variety of organizations and disciplines.

  • Conduct needs assessments, as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and as needed.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a public health setting developing and delivering technical assistance or capacity building training, ideally for public health data modernization initiatives.

  • Demonstrated cultural competence in providing services to or working with Tribes and Tribal organizations while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

  • Prior experience designing and developing trainings, training toolkits, communication materials and tools, and technical assistance activities highly desired.

  • Prior experience analyzing and interpreting program data and suggesting improvements and strategies to guide program development and implementation highly desired.

  • Quantitative skills and/or experience with statistical analysis highly desired.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, with minimal supervision and within a team environment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent technical writing and research skills.

  • Understanding of adult learning styles and training techniques.

  • Experience working with public health federal agencies, states and/or tribes preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Effective organization skills.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in public health or relevant field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to travel (15% of time) to various locations in the U.S. to attend meetings, conferences, etc.
