NiSource Human and Organizational Performance Program Manager in Gary, Indiana

Job Summary

NiSource is seeking a Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) Program Manager to lead the organization in the integration and sustainment of its HOP operating philosophy. Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) is a foundational element in establishing defense in depth and building capacity to fail safely. This role is pivotal in reducing NiSource wide risk/hazard exposure while also ensuring a healthy safety culture is sustained and operational learning processes work to drive continuous improvement.

The HOP Program Manager will be responsible for the continued evaluation and execution of NiSource's short- and long-term HOP strategy to ensure an effective and sustainable integration. The HOP Program Manager will collaborate closely with key stakeholders (Process Safety, Corporate and Occupational Safety, Change Management, Training, and Operations) to drive alignment and continual reinforcement of HOP principles, concepts, tools and techniques.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish a tailored and comprehensive range of HOP training and reinforcement solutions, to ensure all organizational levels and operational needs are accounted for.

  • Lead formal and informal, virtual and in person, HOP training and reinforcement activities within all NiSource business units, as needed, to supplement broader HOP team. May require out of state travel.

  • Oversee the alignment and utilization of Change Management processes to support the strategic and tactical integration of HOP principles, concepts, tools and techniques across the organization.

  • Develop, implement, and sustain a ‘Learning Team’ program, facilitating structured teams to explore everyday operations (work as done) and events for system vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities.

  • Develop and lead a center of expertise within NiSource focused on developing HOP Champions to assist with the effective and practical application of HOP principles, concepts, tools and techniques.

  • Develop and implement a benchmarking program to ensure NiSource stays current with developments in the HOP field.

  • Design, implement, and sustain performance monitoring and measurement systems to regularly assess the adoption and effectiveness of HOP principles, concepts, tools and techniques. Establish process and cadence for trending data and regularly engaging stakeholders to drive proactive improvements.

  • Create and maintain a communication strategy that accounts for recurring training activities, learning team progress and results, post incident response efforts, performance trends, etc.

  • Establish and reinforce leadership tools and techniques required to drive culture of open reporting and blame-free investigations to increase the capability of effective problem solving in human error related events.

  • Partner with key stakeholders such as Organizational Change Management, Process Safety, Quality Management, and Technical Training in the execution of cultural change programs to drive adoption of human and organizational performance improvements.

  • Apply HOP concepts, principles, tools, and techniques to daily work.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree Human Factors, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.

  • 7-9 years professional HOP program management experience

  • 7-9 years leadership and front-line field coaching and reinforcement

  • 4-6 years curriculum development experience.

  • 7-9 years training front line leaders, front line workers and salaried management employees.

  • Extensive experience in the knowledge & practical application of methods to effectively develop, coach on, deliver and manage key elements of Human and Organizational Performance,

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate with all levels of employees, customers and outside professionals.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and at times competing deliverables.

  • Experience navigating matrixed organization. Proven ability to work across departments collaboratively to resolve issues, drive projects to closure, achieve desired results and successfully implement change.

Preferred

  • 7+ years in a utility industry environment. Experience in Gas, Electric and Generation.

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

  • Thorough Knowledge of NiSource compliance and safety issues.

  • Thorough knowledge of NiSource policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

Salary Range:

$107,000.00 - $160,500.00
