Otsego County PT Civil Process / Court Security in Gaylord, Michigan

Description

Under the supervision of the Sheriff, performs all necessary service of Civil Process, Subpoenas, Writ of Executions and perform Court Security for Otsego County Courts.

Examples of Duties

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties, which the employees may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  1. Records and serves all incoming Civil Process.
  2. Reviews documents daily for timely service and determines daily route to travel efficiently; ensures statutory requirements of service of process are adhered to; contacts individuals to advise of service and determine best time and locations.
  3. Maintains proper reports/records relating to service of process.
  4. Handles billings for all Civil Process.
  5. Provides all court security for Otsego County Courts.
  6. Has considerable knowledge of courtroom procedures and operations.
  7. Handles stressful situations, including disagreements or disturbances in the courtroom. 
  8. Reads and interprets reports, posters, policies, manuals, releases, court orders, and ID cards.
  9. Operates medal detector as required.
  10.  Other duties as assigned. 
Typical Qualifications

  • High school graduation, preferably with some coursework in law enforcement or criminal justice.
  • One or more years of related experience in law enforcement or civil process. Prefer experience in a law enforcement agency, court or in a closely related setting.
  • Possession of valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy in contentious or confrontational situations.

The employee is required to view and produce written reports. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in order to operate metal detector and perform courtroom security screenings.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move items of light to moderate weights.   The typical work environment of this position is outside in varying weather conditions when serving civil process papers and in office and courtroom conditions where noise level is quiet and sometimes moderate.
