Engineering a world of possibilities Post-Doctoral Fellow, Computer Science
Job Summary Professor Thomas Williams in the Computer Science Department at the Colorado School of Mines is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to work on projects related to human-machine dialogue in space exploration contexts. The successful candidate is expected to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with other members of the group and effectively interface with external partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Work on design and implementation of algorithms, models, or policies for machine communication with sensitivity to task-based and human factors
Submit first-authored conference and journal publications to disseminate the results of that research work
Conduct experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of these algorithms, models, or policies
Prepare and present update material related to research progress
Participate in weekly research group meetings
Serve as mentor to graduate and undergraduate students, providing research guidance as well as assistance and feedback on student papers, posters, proposals, and presentations
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in crafting of funding proposals if desired for professional development purposes
Participate in teaching duties if desired for professional development purposes
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in computer science, robotics, or related field. All PhD requirements should be completed by the time work commences.
Previous research experience in areas of human-robot or human-machine interaction.
Previous research experience in both computational methods in robotics or artificial intelligence and in human-subject experimentation.
Demonstrated history of contributions to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access efforts.
Excellent skill in scientific writing and presentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Track record of publications at top-tier human-computer interaction or robotics conferences or journals.
Experience with both Large Language Models and template-based Referring Expression Generation.
Experience with Bayesian statistical analysis
Salary and Benefits $60,000 - $70,000 annual salary Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate's education, training and experience as well as the position's scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
