JOB REQUIREMENTS: Weld Inspector I at Construction Forms, Inc. (View all jobs) Port Washington, WI The primary responsibility of the Inspector is to ensure that our products meet internal safety and quality standards. This is accomplished under limited supervision by performing scheduled inspections of production parts and incoming materials, evaluating returned parts for suitability of resale and confirming the conformance of questionable materials. The Inspector is also responsible for supporting ongoing product development and product improvements via prototype inspection and testing. INSPECTOR QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent is required. Further education in welding and/or inspection is preferred. A minimum of two years' experience in a metal fabrication production environment required. Experience with welding processes, procedures, and inspection methodologies required. Prior welding inspection experience required. Ability to use micrometers, calipers, height gages, dial indicators, hardness testers, combination squares, levels, and tape measures proficiently required. Ability to conduct nondestructive testing utilizing Magnetic Particle Inspection and Die Penetrant Certifications in Magnetic Particle Inspection and Die Penetrant preferred Ability to perform mathematic calculations as required to accurately measure parts. Ability to read and interpret dimensions and tolerances on job prints to ASME Y14.5 and AWS A2.4. Ability to safely operate powered fabrication hand tools such as grinders. Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and jib/boom cranes. Ability to operate test equipment as trained. INSPECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES Inspects and tests welded joints of work in progress and completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration, and conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications. Applies knowledge of welding principles including examining joints to detect flaws including cracks, pits, cold weld spatter, and undercuts. Performs various product tests using equipment such as a pressure tank or hardness tester. Prepares materials for metallurgical testing including cutting, mounting and polishing. Verifies alignment and dimensions of product and setup of machines and fixtures used for work in progress. Refers deviations from standards to the appropriate personnel. Marks defective pieces.
