North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Residence Hall Director (RHD) in Greensboro, North Carolina

Description:

The Residence Hall Director ( RHD ) is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member that will oversee the daily operations and management of traditional or suite-style residence halls.

The RHD will directly supervise and train five to twelve resident assistants.

The RHD is charged with developing a community that promotes engagement, learning, and respect for diversity by encouraging student success.

Lead / participate in departmental committees and manage administrative and operational functions in assigned residence halls.

Provide services directly to students, such as personal and disciplinary counseling, and social and educational events and activities.

Primary responsibilities include coordinating hall programming and engagement, advising community councils, adjudicating student conduct violations, interpreting, and enforcing policies and regulation of the university for the residence halls.

RHDs are required to manage residence halls to include rotational on-call duty work schedule after hours for the entire campus community.

Staff is required to engage residents, be visible within the campus community, attend meetings and events regularly, and be able to respond to emergencies within their community.

RHDs must reside in an provided, furnished on-campus apartment throughout their term of appointment.

This position includes a furnished apartment with most utilities included as part of the total compensation package, including a meal plan.

Annual salary of RHD positions will vary based on housing arrangements and the selected candidate’s relevant education and experience.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The primary purpose of the Housing and Residence Life department is to provide housing accommodation and a certain quality of life for over 6000 students.

To provide living accommodations which are clean, safe, healthy, and comfortable while enhancing a certain quality of life, which supports the academic mission of North Carolina A&T State University.

The Residence Life program is designed to provide an environment which supports students in their academic pursuits, encourages interpersonal development, and offers opportunities for individual growth and challenge.

To provide a quality of life for on campus students through a clean, safe, educational environment.

Responsible for the overall leadership and management of all residence halls, the assignments of rooms, occupancy status of halls, housekeeping needs, maintenance concerns, and budgets, including operating and programming.

Requirements:

-Bachelor’s degree is required.

-Qualified applicants will have strong written and oral communication skills. Qualified applicants will display the ability to foster diverse and inclusive relationships as well as a high degree of cultural sensitivity.

-The ability to manage a variety of projects and responsibilities.

-Experience in diverse populations.

-Excellent organizational and time management skills.

-Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Preferred:

Education and Experience

-Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field-

-Two years full time experience in a housing/residence life setting or other Student Life area.

-Experience in supervising paraprofessional staff.

-Experience in coordinating staff and student development programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Familiarity with the principles of community and student development and actively fosters an environment which reflects a sense of community, interpersonal responsibility in which students are effectively addressed.

-Excellent written and oral communication skills.

-Understanding of student development theory and its application in a residence life setting.

-Working knowledge of university/residence life operations.

-Knowledge of theoretical foundations of the student disciplinary process.

-Knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft Office and Housing software.
