Job Title: Electrical DesignerJob Description
As an Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for working on a project's electrical engineering design from inception through completion of construction. You will collaborate with engineers and independently execute technical designs, direct the preparation of construction documents, and specify electrical systems. You will also resolve challenges in system layouts and provide technical expertise to evaluate concepts and communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
Responsibilities
Meet and maintain positive communication with clients and contractors.
Analyze project requirements to select appropriate electrical systems, considering costs, efficiency, and other technical and economic factors.
Develop detailed basis of design scope.
Ensure accuracy of design calculations and verify compliance with all applicable codes.
Coordinate major design items and delegate/supervise minor items.
Coordinate with utility providers.
Host and/or attend project team design meetings in-house and with clients.
Maintain project design pace to meet project schedule requirements.
Ensure interdisciplinary coordination by reviewing design documents against all other disciplines.
Coordinate preparation of and edit specifications for project manual.
Perform cost estimating of proposed projects and perform life cycle cost analysis.
Provide primary role in quality control and checking design documents.
Responsible for construction administration, including coordinating shop drawing and submittal review.
Provide technical design leadership and mentor junior staff members.
Participate in business development efforts and assist in developing proposals for prospective projects.
Essential Skills
5+ years of electrical design experience, including low voltage and lighting design.
Proficiency in Autodesk REVIT and AutoCAD.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical design documents.
Thorough knowledge of electrical graphical symbols and drafting standards.
Proficiency in SKM arc flash and/or Agi32 lighting software preferred.
Solid understanding of electrical grounding systems, power systems (0-600V), power generation and backup systems, interior and exterior lighting systems, telecommunications cabling, sound systems, fire alarm systems, and security systems.
Knowledge of electrical single-line diagram design, load calculations, lighting calculations, fault current calculations, and cost opinions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field related to technical design (not necessarily electrical).
Experience with electrical device and lighting fixture layout.
Experience coordinating electrical connections to equipment supplied by other disciplines.
Work Environment
You will be working in a 40-person MEP engineering company that partners with A/E firms and other owners on a variety of projects across the state and country, including government/municipal, healthcare, hospitality, and multifamily projects. The environment is an open-office cubicle setting for drafters and designers. The dress code is business casual, and the working hours are somewhat flexible, typically from 7-8 AM to 4-5 PM with one hour for lunch. The office is located on the Northside of Indy near the Fashion Mall. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $40.87/hr.
