Quality Laboratory Technician (Co-op Student),

This position reports into Quality Laboratory Supervisor and is based at: Guelph, ON Canada. The position is available for either 8 or 12 month terms (12 months preferred).

What will you do

Target Start Date 03SEP2024

Within the Analytical Quality Laboratory team, the successful individual will be responsible for supporting the testing of raw materials, in-process and finished products, and GMP duties including solution preparation and glassware washing. In addition, this individual may have the opportunity to complete assigned projects in support of continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Note: Ratio of lab support and testing may vary based on experience, proficiency and completion of laboratory support activities.

Laboratory Support (80%):

  • Support laboratory testing programs by prioritizing and preparing reagents and solutions.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of laboratory glassware and operation of glassware dishwasher.

  • Complete housekeeping and GMP support tasks ensuring compliance with all procedures and protocols.

Analytical Testing (20%):

  • Perform chemical assays, content/dose uniformity, dissolutions, FTIR, identification tests, titrations, specific gravity, sieve analysis, UV-VIS.

  • Gain exposure to advanced testing such as HPLC and UPLC analysis.

  • Maintain detailed, accurate and up-to-date records of work performed using good documentation practices (GDPs).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor of Science program.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Basic understanding of laboratory equipment and analytical techniques.

  • Ability to work both independently or as an integral member of the team

  • Very high attention to detail is required.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and multitasking capabilities.

  • Strong personal digital literacy.

  • Enjoy working to multiple end dates in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a pharmaceutical or food laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of HPLC, FTIR, UV and wet chemistry is an asset.

  • Basic knowledge of the USP, GMP, and GDP.
