Eaton Corporation Lead Engineer - Sustainability in Hadapsar, India

  • Eaton’s Center for Sustainability is looking for a passionate individual with sound knowledge and a proven track record in life cycle assessment and product stewardship to lead the mobility group’s product sustainability portfolio.

  • This role will provide technical, strategic and implementation leadership to help the mobility business meet emerging regulatory and customer driven product sustainability requirements through new products and technologies, create sustainability value propositions to gain additional business opportunities, and support the business to meet Eaton’s 2030 sustainability goals.

  • Primary responsibilities of this role include,

  • Execute complex detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), carbon footprint studies as per ISO 14040, 14044 or ISO 14067 to evaluate environmental impacts of Eaton's Mobility Group products

  • Work with product engineering teams on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with Mobility products and develop sustainability roadmaps.

  • Lead development of eco-design tools and their implementation during new product development process.

  • Monitor and understand industry trends and regulations related to sustainability, product compliance, and develop landscaping methodology for Eaton’s global vehicle product portfolio, create risk mitigation framework and discuss with our key customers / stakeholders.

  • Lead Design-for-Environment (DfE) activities in New Project development process and Pursuits and help launching compliant and sustainable products in-line with Eaton and our customer’s sustainability targets.

  • Guide junior team members in regulatory compliance and product sustainability aspects to build the capacity/learning.

  • Drive continuous process improvements, adopt digital tools to enhance process efficiency and increase turnaround time.

Qualifications:

Requirement:

  • Masters (7+ years) or Bachelors (10+ years) or PhD (with 3+ years) - Environmental science/ Chemical/ Mechanical/ Electronics or Electricals engineering

  • Experience in an engineering, sustainability, or environmental science/technology/management discipline with relevant experience in LCA, eco-design and product stewardship in relevant industrial, vehicle, electronics, or relevant product/process industry.

Skills:

1) The candidate must be able to demonstrate in-depth expertise in most of the following areas related to Life Cycle Assessment or carbon accounting standards,

a. Hands-on experience in LCAs including experience on ISO 14040/44/67 critical reviewed LCA, hotspot analysis. Ability to derive recommendation for product design team.

b. Hands-on experience in leading LCA modelling software such as Sphera-GaBi, OpenLCA, EIME, SimaPro, Umberto etc.

c. Ability to define and develop robust life cycle inventory for industrial/ electronic/ electrical / automotive products.

d. Know-how of manufacturing processes and working of industrial/ electronic/ electrical / automotive products.

2) Strong analytical skills in developing and deploying product stewardship tools and regulatory forecast through in-depth technical knowledge and experience in the following areas,

a.Product stewardship and regulations such as REACh, RoHS, TSCA, ELV, WEEE etc. and other eco-design related regulations.

b.Strong awareness of upcoming regulations and know-how on creating methodology for mapping products, analyzing business risk and making the portfolio compliant to applicable regulations.

c.Experience with industry tools/ datasets like IMDS, CDX, SiliconExpert, EUCLID etc.

3) Experience on product sustainability tools and methods (tools related to product circularity, screening product carbon footprint, regulatory landscape, etc.) to quantify upcoming sustainability trends, circularity, pathways to net-zero products etc.

4) Knowledge of one or more of the following is a plus:

a.ESG reporting/rating Standards (MSCI, FTSE, DJSI, EcoVadis, etc.) and sustainability standards/framework (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, SDG), and automotive industry practices on sustainability reporting standards.

b.Experience with developing dashboards, automation, and continuous improvement methods, six sigma (DMAIC or DFSS) is highly desirable.

c. Application of GHG protocol and scope 1, 2, 3 accounting standards and experience of calculating scope 3 emissions for downstream and upstream categories.

d.Knowledge of energy and resource efficiency.
