Job Responsibilities\
We are looking for exceptional engineers with industrial experience and
interest in materials science, metallurgy, and structural mechanics as
they apply to design. The ideal candidate will have the passion,
creativity, and skills to support a broad range of R&D in a
multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will provide
the materials science expertise needed to ensure that innovative designs
will meet high performance requirements in demanding environments.
Projects begin with concept development and proceed through analysis,
mechanical design, fabrication, and testing leading to development of
prototypes, commercial products, and deployed systems.
As a Mechanical & Materials Design Engineer, the focus will be on
material selection, modeling, characterization, and applying these
efforts directly to the design of thermal-fluid and electro-mechanical
systems. Typical design challenges include high-temperature creep of
superalloy heat exchangers, cyclic plasticity and fatigue of a range of
materials, heat treatment procedures, corrosion protection, brazing,
welding metallurgy, technical ceramics and CMCs, and exotic materials.
Familiarity with common metallurgical practices and laboratory
techniques is ideal: metallographic and fractographic interpretation,
microstructural development, phase kinetics, etc.
Key Elements of the Position
- Variety of Projects. Work on several clean-sheet R&D projects at
a time. Example current/past projects: compact, high-temperature
heat exchangers, spacecraft cryogenic systems, compact combustors,
vacuum pumps for Mars rovers, aerosol devices for administering
pharmaceuticals, liquid nitrogen cooling systems for cutting tools,
precision scroll pumps, and turbines with shaft speeds greater than
500,000 rpm.
- Challenging and Interesting Work. Use your knowledge of
materials science, metallurgy, statics, dynamics, fluid flow, heat
transfer, and mechanical design to develop fabrication processes and
design, build, and test experimental hardware, working prototypes,
and specialized products.
- Talented and Creative Colleagues. Team with other creative
Engineers and highly capable support staff (Designers/Drafters,
Mechanical Technicians, Precision Machinists). Project teams are
small and highly interdisciplinary.
- New England College Town. Our location offers exceptional
opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast, excellence in schools and
medical centers, and proximity to Dartmouth College. Additionally,
NH has no State sales or income tax!
U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents only.\
