DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will assist in all operations in the FMD Fleet Garage and component remanufacturing shops. You'll serve as a trainee and assist in maintaining remanufactured diesel engines and components to keep the department's central office fleet of equipment operating. You will participate in preventive maintenance and repairs, including basic engine rebuild duties such as cleaning, painting, and evaluating engine components; performing diesel particulate filter cleanings; and basic groundskeeping duties including snow removal.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Alternate Work Schedule (AWS) available. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years as a Tradesman Helper (commonwealth title) working in the automotive field; or Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement: This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment. Certain positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations

Condition of Employment: This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period. You must obtain a Valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations. This position requires operation of vehicle or equipment with a manual transmission.
