The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) is seeking an outstanding individual with leadership and managerial skills and a forward-thinking mindset to serve as the Deputy Director, for the Central Area Office.  The selected candidate will oversee a growing staff of emergency managers, provide guidance on emergency management programs, and offer a variety of support to 23 Pennsylvania counties.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As Deputy Director of the Central Area Office at PEMA, you will work closely with your staff of emergency managers to ensure they have the support needed to serve the 23 counties in the central region.  The position will require frequent travel to various counties to attend meetings, assist with programs and during times of disaster, provide liaison support and assist with damage assessments and other recovery efforts.

Additionally, the deputy director will collaborate with county partners on a variety of activities ranging from researching information, planning, training & exercise, hazardous materials, mitigation, recovery, and grants management.  The deputy will provide guidance to our partners on laws, regulations, and procedures related to emergency management.  They will professionally represent PEMA at meetings, trainings, exercises, and conferences.

During times when the director is unavailable, the deputy will assume their responsibilities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Schedule is dependent on activations or other needs of the operation. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Two years of experience as an Emergency Management Specialist (commonwealth title); or Three years of professional experience in the development, coordination, or promotion of emergency management programs such as disaster relief, public safety, flood mitigation and resiliency, and emergency management in government, industry, education, or the military; and a bachelor's degree; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes two years of professional experience in the development, coordination, or promotion of emergency management programs such as disaster relief, public safety, flood mitigation and resiliency, and emergency management in government, industry, education, or the military. Special Requirement: This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. All positions require certification in the following courses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute, within six months of hire: IS-100.C: Introduction to the Incident Command System IS-700.B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction IS-2200: Basic Emergency Operations Center Functions
