Reference #: 4425927 THE POSITION Do you have experience in the regulation of food safety? If so, this may be a position for you! The Division of Food Safety plays a critical role in protecting Pennsylvanians and our visitors by regulating the tens of thousands of eating and drinking establishments, retail food stores, and food manufacturers found across the state to ensure compliance with food safety laws.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK The position involves performing technical duties within an agricultural inspection program aimed at ensuring adherence to state regulations regarding purity, quality, and sanitation standards. The role requires conducting a variety of food safety inspections independently across different establishments, such as produce farms, dairy farms, retail food facilities, manufacturing facilities, milk and egg processing facilities, distribution centers, and warehousing facilities. Utilizing a combination of laws, regulations, policies, and expertise in food safety and security, you will be responsible for evaluating foods and food facilities during inspections and investigations to assess compliance levels. Specifically, you will be tasked with inspecting eggs, egg facilities, and fruits and vegetables within a designated area, which involves activities like selecting, weighing, and thoroughly examining agricultural commodities both internally and externally to determine their compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Overtime: Occasional for training and facilities operating on non-workdays and outside of work hours. Travel: Occasional overnight travel required. Position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Lycoming, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga counties. If applicant does not live in Lycoming, Bradford, Sullivan or Tioga County, the assigned state vehicle must be parked in one of these counties and the workday will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in the inspection of produce farms, egg processing facilities, dairy farms, milk processing plants, or related food processing facilities, and a bachelor's degree in food science, food technology, dairy or animal science, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirement: All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
