Job Title: County Deputy Treasurer

Location: Highland County, Ohio

*FLSA Status: *Hourly

*Wage: *$16.50 per hour

Position Overview: The County Deputy Treasurer plays a vital role in supporting the Treasurer's Office by managing financial operations, assisting the public, and maintaining accurate records. This position requires strong organizational, mathematical, and customer service skills, along with the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management and Tax Collection:

  • Process real estate and mobile home taxes year-round, including two major collection periods in February and July.
  • Verify postmark dates to determine the timeliness of payments.
  • Manage escrow payment plans, including calculating monthly payments, setting up and maintaining accounts, printing coupons, and reconciling balances.
  • Maintain delinquent tax contracts, calculate payment amounts, and prepare required documentation for the Prosecutor's Office.
  • Process online payments by downloading files daily, verifying amounts, and posting payments accurately.
  • Manage pre-commitment files from lenders by verifying payment amounts and ensuring payments match owed amounts on parcels.

2. Administrative and Office Tasks:

  • Operate computers and software such as Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Word.
  • Use an adding machine, count money, and handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Maintain detailed financial records and prepare reports as needed.
  • Lift boxes of paper, old records, or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work independently and take the initiative to complete tasks without direct supervision.

3. Customer Service and Public Interaction:

  • Assist the public by answering questions, directing them to the correct departments, and resolving concerns in a professional manner.
  • Handle upset or confused customers with patience and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance to customers on the Auditor's and Recorder's Office processes, including property taxes, homestead exemptions, owner occupancy, property value, CAUV, and recorded ownership statuses such as survivorship or trusts.

4. Organizational and Teamwork Skills:

  • Stay focused and organized in a busy office environment with multiple distractions.
  • Be a team player, willing to accept advice and feedback while contributing to the team's success.
  • Multi-task effectively while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent math skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in financial management, accounting, or related fields is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Auditor's and Recorder's Office functions preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Travel of up to 5% may be required for training and special assignments

Work Conditions:

  • Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Frequent interaction with the public in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds frequently.
