DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The County Social Services Aide 1 is an entry level position which works closely with caseworkers and other social service aides to provide in-home support to families with children who have been deemed eligible for services.  This is an excellent opportunity to provide one-on-one assistance and interface with families to work towards achieving positive goals and outcomes.

Duties may include assistance in all areas of family life including household budgeting, in-home parenting education, proper hygiene, nutrition, cooking and grocery shopping skills, and general maintenance of the home.  You may be required to transport consumers to supervised visitation and scheduled appointments, as well as provide childcare when necessary. This position also assists in completing various applications/forms and miscellaneous clerical duties.  You will be responsible for completing written reports of each appointment with consumers, participate in meetings with other staff to develop treatment plans and set goals for consumers, and attend court hearings and provide testimony, if needed.

General activities may include frequent standing, climbing steps, and walking distances as a normal part of this position. You must be able to climb flights of steps in homes and apartment buildings where no elevators are present.  We are looking for someone who can manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and pays close attention to details under a constantly changing work environment.  Travel may be required to areas that may not be accessible to public transportation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

Once trained, this position may not consist of the traditional work hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with one hour for lunch.

This position will require evening and weekend work hours.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Graduation from high school;or

Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna or Wayne counties.  If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.

You must pass a background investigation.

A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.

This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
