UHMC SENIOR SHORE SUPPORT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - ID# 224635.

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Marine Center (UHMC), Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

HOURLY RANGE: $45.00 - $65.50/Hr.

DUTIES: Develops and executes marine engine maintenance on research vessels and shore side mobile equipment requiring excellent problem solving and diagnostic skills, solid work ethic, strong technical aptitude and prior experience servicing University of Hawaii vessels in the past is preferred. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to organize priorities and clearly communicate and direct individuals in a team environment while working together on complex marine systems. Duties include developing, planning, and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the R/V Kilo Moana's four (4) Caterpillar diesel generator sets and engine equipment on other Marine Center operated vessels and facility support equipment. Manages all aspects of project engineering, including schedule, budget, procurement of parts and personnel. Troubleshoots, problem solves, and identifies problems through failure analysis. Tests, measures, aligns and adjusts engine systems and components. Disassembles, adjusts, installs, and repairs in conjunction with both top end and major/in-frame overhauls, marine reciprocating engine, and power systems. Drives project vehicles as necessary, including forklifts and cranes. Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on shore side rolling stock, which includes mobile cranes, forklifts, vehicles, and other heavy and light equipment.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

At least twenty (20) years of previous Caterpillar engine (marine or generator) service experience, as well as experience with CAT Service Information System (SIS) and Caterpillar (CAT) Electronic Technician (ET) diagnostic software is also required. Experience working with large industrial power generation equipment. Extensive hands-on experience is required. Prior experience servicing University of Hawaii vessels in the past is required. Requires USCG and class approved CAT certification.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of mechanical skills with diesel and hydraulic equipment. In-depth understanding of diesel engine and generator technology.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain a U.S. Passport. Status is required to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Must read, sign, and adhere to the University of Hawaii Code of Conduct for employees. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel gensets, forklifts, cranes, etc. Research and determine reusability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines. Flexibility to travel for extended periods of time on occasion to work on vessel while away from home port may also be required. Must possess a valid drivers license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal drivers insurance equivalent to Hawaiis No-Fault Drivers Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must complete the online Hazard Communication raining immediately after hire or no later than employees initial exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Must be able to obtain a

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Must be able to obtain forklift and crane certifications consistent with program equipment.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand up to eight (8) hours per day and includes twisting, bending, squatting, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
