PURPOSE OF DIVISION:
The Operations Division is responsible for the Airport Operations Centers (AOC), Airside and Landside Operations, Security, Airport badging offices, Safety, and Emergency Management at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport. The team works around the clock ensuring a safe, secure, and efficient customer experience from the roadway to the runway. The Operations Division is also the liaison to key stakeholders such as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Houston Fire Department (HFD), Houston Police Department (HPD), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and other agencies ensuring the highest level of safety and security of our customers.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of IAH Landside Operations is to provide the safe, secure and efficient flow of passengers, baggage, and vehicles and to manage terminals, roadways, and tenant areas while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local rules and regulations. The Airport Operations Supervisor – Landside manages the day-to-day operational activities to ensure the safe and seamless flow of customers using our roadways, terminals, and commercial transportation operators. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."
The Airport Operations Supervisor - Landside duties will include but are not limited to:
Manage day-to-day operational activities, including traffic control, monitoring roads and terminal curb zones, enforcement of commercial ground transportation regulations, and facility management of terminals.
Plan, schedule, and assign work; trains and evaluate operational employees in accordance with airport and City policies, rules, and regulations.
Identify and anticipate operational, safety and security concerns by inspecting airport facilities and operating areas while monitoring radio communications.
Command operational activities and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) by following the Airport Emergency Plan and airport rules and regulations.
Develop and provide reports for executive management regarding operational activities, inspection.
results, violations of airport leases, and compliance standards by tenants and airlines.
Create, revise and implement operating rules, regulations, standards, and procedures to ensure airport safety. Keep abreast of existing and new legislation and ensures compliance to Federal, State and local requirements.
Support operational, safety and security responsibility as a representative of airport management.
Act as a liaison for Landside Operations to airlines, TSA, CBP, HPD, and other airport stakeholders. Contribute to the team effort by performing related duties as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There is only a slight source of discomfort from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with situations where occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or periodic use of a video display terminal are required. The ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Airway Science, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of progressively responsible experience in airport operations of an airport are required.
Directly related professional experience involving lead or supervisory responsibilities may substitute for the above education requirement on a on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the emergency and safety management profession. Great business writing skills, with excellent investigation report writing skills is preferred. A working knowledge of federal code of regulations Title 49, Parts 1542 and 1544, Federal, State and local aviation policies and procedures is highly desirable. Professional experience involving lead or supervisory responsibilities is a plus. Able to work a flex schedule and/or any extended hours during airport emergencies is preferred.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
