DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The mission of the Fleet Management Department is to provide the City of Houston with best value, fleet management services. To accomplish Fleet’s mission and our vision of being recognized as the best managed fleet in the country, we are actively seeking an Inspector with knowledge of fueling stations and experience to perform repairs and compliance inspections. The Inspector is a Tier 1 position and can provide subject matter expertise performing under limited supervision and within standard operating procedures.
The INSPECTOR duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Performs record keeping activities to maintain reports and documentation.
Installs and repairs mechanical equipment and component.
Provides preventive maintenance to equipment.
Performs vehicle, equipment and refueling infrastructure inspections to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Services fueling equipment and infrastructure. Transports fuels and lubricants on an as needed basis to service facilities and emergency response vehicles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma/GED, and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of journey level experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to include HazMat (X) Endorsement within 6 months of employment. Complete Texas UST A/B Operator Training within 3 months of employment.
PREFERENCES
Preferences will be given to candidates with prior experience in fuel station repair/compliance.
*Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. *
