CACI has a challenging and exciting opportunity, on the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center, for an experienced Software Systems Engineer. Lunar Gateway, a vital component of NASA’s Artemis Program, will serve as a multi-purpose outpost orbiting the Moon that provides essential support for long-term human return to the lunar surface, and serves as a staging point and technology incubator for deep space exploration.

What You’ll Get to Do:

This critical senior technical position will lead verification planning for the distributed software control systems on the Co-Manifested Vehicle (CMV). CMV comprises the initial Lunar Gateway configuration and includes the Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) and Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO). The CMV will become part of the final Lunar Gateway configuration.

This position requires a motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong leadership and customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise.

More About the Role:

Job responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate planning of distributed software system verification for requirements in the Co-manifested Vehicle System Requirements Document (SRD).

  • Support the development and maturation of test procedures for distributed autonomous control system requirements verification.

  • Use custom and commercial tools (DOORS, SharePoint, Confluence) to access and review verification artifacts.

  • Interface with NASA and spacecraft design engineering teams.

  • Interface with NASA verification and test facilities, e.g., Gateway Software Verification Lab (GSVL), Gateway Ready Avionics Integration Lab (GRAIL), and spacecraft module provider verification facility teams, e.g., HALO power lab.

  • Interface with domestic and international Gateway partners.

  • Provide creative solutions for constrained schedules and resources in a fast-paced environment.

This work takes place onsite at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.

  • Experience with spacecraft systems and vehicle development.

  • Background in software development and V&V experience with developing and maintaining verification plans.

  • Strong systems engineering experience.

  • Experience with EITHER:

  • Autonomous or remotely controlled systems (e.g., used in satellites, autonomous cars, or unmanned aerial vehicles), OR

  • Avionics and flight software development for human-rated space vehicles, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle.

  • Experience in technical project management with a minimum of three years’ relevant leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups.

  • Well-developed coordination and organizational skills.

  • Experience with schedule development and management.

  • Evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.

  • Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments.

  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.

  • Possess technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.

  • Must be a responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • Experience with complex, data driven software systems.

  • Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space vehicle flight projects. (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion).

  • Experience with DOORS or equivalent software applications.

  • Experience with custom and commercial software project collaboration tools (SharePoint, Confluence, etc.)

The proposed salary range for this position is:

$69,100 - 141,500 USD
