The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an Adjunct Collaborative Pianist position in the Voice Department at the Peabody Preparatory. The successful candidate will join a highly skilled and dedicated voice faculty and two other staff pianists as part of a vibrant and active department committed to helping all students achieve their potential; we embrace the novice musician as well as the serious student aspiring toward a career in music.
The successful candidate will primarily support voice students at the Howard County campus location, although they must also be available to occasionally travel to the downtown Peabody Conservatory campus (where end-of-semester events are held). Independent transport will be necessary, and reliability and professionalism are essential. Opportunities at the Annapolis and Frederick campuses may also become available in due course.
Pianists are paid a weekly stipend based on anticipated hours, although most activity is concentrated in peak periods (January/May) as students prepare performances.
Responsibilities
The collaborative pianist works closely with the Chair of the Preparatory Voice Department to schedule assignments. Duties include:
accompanying voice lessons, classes, studio classes, recitals and other Voice Department events
meeting independently as necessary with voice students for rehearsal and coaching
potential opportunities to accompany students for outside competitions and events.
Bachelor's degree in music and/or music education required. Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
demonstrated experience as a classical collaborative artist and coach/pianist
knowledge of classical vocal repertoire and foreign-language diction
familiarity with musical theater/contemporary repertoire a plus
able to work supportively and independently with singers of all levels
available periodically evenings and weekends for voice lessons and recitals
independent transport to all of Peabody's campuses
