MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a MITRE staff member with a passion for radar systems engineering. MITRE N262 MDA Sensors and C4ISR Department provides technical expertise to MITRE’s MDA Program across the Ground Sensors domains.
As an experienced systems engineer or electrical engineer, you will apply engineering principles and expertise to bring technical solutions to bear on the government’s toughest challenges in the acquisition, design, testing, integration, verification, and fielding of ground radar capabilities.
The job is a Lead Step, Huntsville, AL-based position; this work location is required to effectively foster staff relationships and shape the direct work program.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Develop technical sensor concepts and recommendations that consider technical risk, extensibility, and affordability
Develop and implement plans for prototyping and assessing future radar concepts
Work with Systems Engineering to develop functional, performance and interoperability requirements for radar capabilities added to operational baselines
Coordinate technical radar systems, software, and hardware development and capability updates throughout the product office integrated product teams and with external stakeholders, across multiple end users
Assess performance of radar systems, software, and hardware engineering studies to inform program management decisions
Technical acquisition support to the government program management, contractual statement of work (SOW) development, technical contract evaluation, and contract negotiation technical expertise
Have willingness to work as part of a government integrated product team environment partnering technical outcomes across multiple stakeholders and organizations
Minimum Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical or systems engineering, or similar technical degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances. This position requires an active Secret clearance.
8+ years of experience in applying expert experience level to developing and evolving sensors or radar technical capabilities and defense programs through the practical application of physics-based engineering, technical assessment, and/or systems engineering best practices
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in sensor target tracking and discrimination techniques
Experience with sensor and battle manager/weapon system integration
Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and strategy/issue resolution development to complex sensor challenges
Experience in Missile Defense Agency systems and programs
Master’s Degree in engineering or similar field and with at least 10 years of experience
Technical expertise in a relevant sensor or radar engineering domain
Known as a team player, ability to work independently with a team environment with loosely defined objectives
Recognized as a thought leader and one who dynamically and proactively executes leadership and consensus decisions
Active SECRET or above DoD Clearance
