Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an E3 Staff Systems Engineer to lead the E3 Design Team. This position is located in either Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL and supports the Sentinel program.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do

This position is for a systems engineer experienced in design for EMI/EMC compliance. The selected candidate will be expected to lead and support efforts within the E3 team in the areas of EMI/EMC design and analysis. They should feel comfortable providing critical, actionable feedback of system designs as well as giving status updates to program leadership. They should be able to develop and apply advanced technical principles, techniques, and concepts regarding EMI/EMC designs. As a Lead position for the Sentinel program for E3 the selected candidate will be responsible for leading the design support team of E3 engineers to ensure quality and technical execution of E3 design analysis and recommendations in support of multiple design teams and IPTs across the program. In this role the lead will be expected to provide oversight, training, and mentorship for junior to mid-level E3 engineers.

In this position, you will be expected to:

  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in EMI/EMC design.

  • Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.

  • Ensure systems and equipment meets MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464 and other compliance requirements.

  • Share extensive knowledge in the design and implementation of EMI/EMC controls, to include transient suppression, filter design, circuit board and flextape layout, cable shield design, equipment housing design and system grounding principles.

  • Lead system requirements development, management, analysis, and traceability, to translate customer requirements and CONOPS into systems requirements, and further allocate to lower-level requirements.

  • Consult/Lead reviews of technical schematics, drawings, plans and/or specifications.

  • Oversee/Lead and Support system technical performance measurement definition and tracking.

  • Lead an EMI design team of 4-6 engineers providing tasking and oversight of EMI work products.

  • Review and integrate work products developed by others.

  • Provide regular mentorship / leadership to teams on EMI design topics.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Job Qualifications

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and 14 Years experience with Bachelors in Science, 12 Years experience with a Masters, and 9 Years experience with a PhD.

  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance

  • Must be eligible to obtain Enhanced Security Clearances within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464

  • Familiarity with E3 CDRLs including EMI/EMC control plans, E3 Integration and Analysis Reports, and E3 Verification Procedures and Reports.

  • Experience with EMI design support/analysis for EMI critical design features.

  • Ability to meet program technical, cost, and schedule milestones• Experience leading EMI design efforts with integrated product teams (IPTs).

  • Ability to integrate, engage, and lead an EMI design team of 4-6 engineers.

  • Ability to present EMI design recommendations to IPT leads, program boards, and customers.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

  • Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on a missile program

  • Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on fixed ground installations

  • Prior experience in E3 related areas such as ESD, HERO, TEMPEST

  • 5+ years experience leading technical teams in support of program execution to meet cost and schedule

  • Technical areas include Space and Launch Vehicles and associated Ground Control Systems

  • Experience in modeling of EM effects and use of EM effects simulation tools such as Spice, MATLAB, ANSYS HFSS/EMA3D/Maxwell, CST, or other codes

Salary Range: $142,500 - $213,700

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
