Make a Difference

The Registered Nurse augments staff knowledge and attitudes as they relate to Palliative Care, conducts informational monitoring of current Palliative Care patients, consults with GEM Team, Hospice and other specialties about Palliative Care issues, teaches patients and families about Palliative Care and Hospice, disseminates information about Palliative Care comfort measures/EOL Care patients through a variety of ways including coordination of unit in-services, journal article reviews, and dissemination of Palliative Care best practices with national guidelines, identifies the need for and assists in the development of Palliative Care education materials, promotes collaboration with interdisciplinary staff in planning and promoting alternative practices in Palliative Care in symptom management, educates the interdisciplinary staff about Palliative Care issues through in-service presentations and direct consultation/support at the bedside, collaborates with the PC team, unit nurses, referral sources and other resource people as necessary regarding Palliative Care patients/consults, assists in updating Palliative Care related policies and procedures, attends Palliative Care educational programs/seminars and keeps up with current trends and continuing education, evaluates and provides feedback to staff regarding Palliative Care protocols, promotes awareness of hospital and community resources for the Palliative Care patient, conducts assessment and reporting of symptom management needs for current Palliative Care patients, utilizing best practices in Palliative Care (screenings, build), assists clinic Medical Assistants with patient clinical questions and referrals to clinic and home based Palliative Care, and other related tasks as needed. The position is located on the south side in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

-Graduate of National League for Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) accredited school of nursing, or three years of related professional nursing experience.

-Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid license to practice in the state of Indiana as listed in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

-Two years or more of nursing experience required.

-ICU, hospice or bedside experience preferred.

-Excellent communication skills.

-Excellent team skills.

-Compassionate and caring.

-Accountable and self-directed.

-EPIC experience a plus.
