The Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of mechanical parts for new electronic products and systems. This includes the design of injection molded plastic parts, stamped metal parts, cast metal parts, and rubber parts. It also includes understanding electronics manufacturing processes to determine the best mechanical design of the printed circuit boards. Product design may include mechanical simulation / analysis and mechanical testing. The electro-mechanical engineer will work with other members of the product development team and with Indesigns clients for new product introduction into manufacturing.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Estimate electro-mechanical development costs for new projects
Develop mechanical requirements for products / systems
Create mechanical product / system architectures
Select electro-mechanical parts (connectors, cables, potentiometers, encoders, etc.) with input from electrical engineers
Create detailed designs of mechanical parts
Perform mechanical stress analysis and thermal simulations
Conduct mechanical design reviews
Procure and evaluate prototype mechanical parts
Assemble mechanical parts for prototype models
Test mechanical parts and product prototypes
Work with the factory to incorporate DFM requirements into the mechanical design
Create mechanical design release packages for factory production
Evaluate production tooled parts
Support the factory for pilot product introductions
Provide mechanical sustaining engineering
Provide support to create project proposals / statements of work
Work with the project team and project manager to create project plans
Work with electrical engineers and PCB designers to accommodate electronics into design
Interface with clients to communicate electro-mechanical design progress and seek client inputs
Oversee mechanical design processes
