West Virginia Employer Packaging Engineer in Inwood, West Virginia

Summary of Position: As a Packaging Engineer, you will plan and direct activities concerned with design and development of cold-end equipment, packaging materials and their related processes. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of products to determine physical characteristics, special-handling, safety requirements and type of materials required for proposed packaging. Manage and/or support projects including equipment installations, new product trials and start-ups, automation upgrades, and continuous improvement projects. Responsibilities Maintain a safe environment by complying with safety rules and procedures. This includes putting safety first in everything you do. Develop and implement overall packaging strategy to best fit the needs of Operations, Shipping, Warehousing and Customers. Consult with Marketing, Engineering, Purchasing, Product Development and Operations Departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging solutions and processes. Develop efficient cold-end procedures and work instructions that are easily understood and transferable. Innovate cold-end/packaging equipment and processes for the purposes of optimizing operational safety, quality, and costs in collaboration with manufacturing sites, corporate functions, external suppliers, and our customers. Understand the VOC (voice of customer) in terms of product expectations, pain points, and opportunities. Work with Corporate Engineering, KIE and plant engineering teams in the layout of manufacturing lines to optimize material flow and minimize operational cost. Maintain knowledge in the latest automation technology related to packaging and material handling. Provide recommendations for plant and product improvements. Provide training and standard operation procedures for new or upgrades packaging equipment. Optimize the performance of automated packaging equipment through continuous improvement initiatives, best-practice identification and sharing between manufacturing sites, and technology upgrades. Lead or participate in plant trials related to new products, material changes, or equipment upgrades in the packaging area. Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities (LSS, Kaizen, etc.) Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field Experience: Minimum three (3) years experience in packaging equipment design and automation Experience in project management and continuous improvement Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to travel 35% of the time Computer skills in MS Windows environment; Moderate skills with Word, PowerPoint and Excel Our benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision starting on day one!
