WSP USA Systems Engineering in Irvine, California

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time System Engineer for our Irvine - Laguna Canyon Rd office. The following locations will also be considered: Los Angles and San Diego . Opportunity

Provide engineering design support to senior engineers for wind, solar, BESS, CHP, hydrogen, microgrids, district energy, and EV Charge station project layouts, electrical single lines, piping and instrumentation diagrams, control, and communication systems.

  • Providing technical engineering assistance for projects related to electrification and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

  • Analyze energy load demands for existing and new facilities.

  • Develop and run models to simulate electrical loads and heat and mass balance calculations for energy systems.

  • Develop financial modeling and analysis tools to evaluate the levelized cost of energy, project NPV, and life cycle costs.

  • Work with projec managers to scope and develop studies, modeling, and data collection approaches.

  • Produce written reports that summarize project methodologies, findings, and recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role entails overseeing projects from inception to completion, overseeing all engineering tasks to guarantee project success. Key responsibilities include:

  • Spearheading the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), encompassing DC blocks, PCS, EMS, etc., for both commercial and utility-scale projects.

  • Offering system design expertise and creating drawings for BESS solutions.

  • Conducting reviews of single-line drawings, communication wiring diagrams, and BESS system layouts to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Tasked with overseeing the planning, design, and execution of solar PV systems, including conducting site assessments to evaluate the feasibility of solar and energy storage installations.

  • Gathers structural, electrical, and other related site data to inform the design process.

  • Develops technical design specifications for solar PV systems, ensuring alignment with materials, site conditions, functional or contractual obligations, design criteria, and other pertinent factors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Energy Systems, Electrical engineering, or related degree.

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant post education experience.

  • Experienced with energy modeling tools like: PVsyst, Helioscope, Homer, OpenWind, and other energy modeling tools.

  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.

  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Demonstrated interest in Renewable and Energy, or related field, and have a strong desire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using MatLab, System Advisor Model, HOMER Energy, OpenWind, energyPRO, PVsyst, PVCase, Helioscope, and other energy modeling, design, and optimization software platforms.
