The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Ordnance Technician C, Missile Launch Electronic Tech. to support our government customer located in Kekaha, Kaua'i.

Provides assistance to the Ordnance Missile Launcher Electronic A and B Technicians, the Lead Ordnance Technician, and subject matter experts in operating and maintaining the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) launch control sequencer and missile/target systems and performs operational and maintenance tasks associated with target vehicles/missiles.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the missile/target vehicles Ordnance Missile Launcher Electronic Technicians, specialists, and engineers in providing electronic launch control technical support as required.

  • Assists the Ordnance Missile Launcher Electronic A and B technicians in launcher remote control operations and evaluate launcher functions.

  • Performs vehicle target/missile testing and configuration for launching under the supervision of the Ordnance Missile Launcher Electronic A and B Technicians.

  • Properly maintain vehicle targets/missiles and launcher loading and testing equipment.

  • Assists in the integration and testing of new missile systems introduced into the PMRF missile/target resource.

  • Handles and assembles missiles, drones, launchers, and other ordnance-handling equipment.

  • Performs preventative, corrective, and corrosive maintenance of launch systems.

  • Perform post-operation flushing and maintenance of torpedoes, targets, training vehicles and other exercise weapons in accordance with current methods and procedures.

  • Handle, transport, and store ordnance/explosives and inert items per navy guidelines.

  • Inspect and perform personal protective equipment (PPE) maintenance.

  • Operate Cat 1/2/3 cranes and perform as crane rigger-in-charge and rigger.

  • Assist in the safe download of hazardous waste stored in portable tanks into approved 55-gallon drums.

  • Inspect serviceability of fire extinguishers and eyewash stations as required.

  • Ensure torpedo flushing facility is cleaned at all times when not in use.

  • Performs missile/targets logistics transports, shipment packaging, equipment operation, aircraft loading/unloading, and housekeeping of facilities.

  • Performs other duties as required.

    Environment:

  • Ordnance and hazardous waste/materials handling facilities include launch pads, ordnance/explosive storage magazines/structures, missile assembly buildings, pier-side/aboard the torpedo weapons recovery (TWR) and multi-purpose craft (MPC) boats, Red Label Area to recover torpedoes/weapons/targets, weapons post-run flushing facility, and hazardous waste storage area.

  • Periodically works in close proximity to toxic fumes and by products, and high explosives.

  • May also be in the vicinity of electrical wirings, high and low voltage circuits.

    Physical Activities:

  • Handles and transports heavy weapons/torpedoes/ordnance items and other hazardous materials.

  • Transport ordnance items and other hazardous materials. Also includes operating tractor-trailers, launchers, cranes, tugs, man-lifts, k-loaders, stake-beds, and forklifts.

  • Must satisfactorily pass and annual physical for handling hazardous and toxic fuels and materials

    Office conditions are varied and includes physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds, and over with a 2-men assist. Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, crawling, kneeling, stooping or cramped working places. Environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, confined work area, an office laboratory environment with field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High School or equivalent

  • Or an Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Information Technology from an accredited College/University or Certificate in Advance Systems Electronics for Fire Control Techs desired.

  • Must complete the 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training course.

  • Must complete the 8-hour Basics of Naval Explosives Hazardous Control (Ammo-18) course.

  • Must be able to obtain licenses for the operation of ordnance/material handling equipment, including cranes, k-Loaders, forklifts, man-lifts, stake-beds, tractor-trailers, and other related equipment.

  • Must be able to obtain a valid State of Hawaii driver’s license, a locally issued explosive driver’s license, and explosive ordnance handling qualification certifications.

  • Must be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Must satisfactorily pass an annual physical for handling hazardous and toxic fuels and materials

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of satisfactory progressive experience with applicable electronics or information technology background being current to within one year.

  • Must have a working knowledge of maintenance and testing of digital and analog electronic circuits as well as knowledge and skill in computer architecture, hardware integration and operating systems.

  • Be skilled and knowledgeable in electronic testing instrumentation and equipment.

  • Understand program logic and vehicle target/missile/launch sequencer interface operation.

  • Able to understand and acquire skills in the system integration for launch sequence operation, testing and program modification for a variety of vehicle target/missile ground launchers, and the incorporation of new launchers and platforms into the PMRF launch systems.

  • Understand explosive theory and missile/target activation systems.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems for missile launcher operations.

  • Able to be trained and certified in hazardous waste and materials handling and safety, spill response, clean-up, and housekeeping.

  • Must possess the following PC skills: Word and Outlook.

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND SECURITY CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
