Responsible for all operations of the Endoscopy department. Consults with staff, physicians Outpatient Services Manager, Director of Procedural Services and Chief Nursing Officer on nursing issues and maintaining, implementing and interpretation of facility policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Collaborates with the Outpatient Services Manager on maintaining successful fiscal operation of the department with supply management and productivity. The Endoscopy Supervisor is fully oriented and competent in the Endoscopy RN position and functions as an Endoscopy RN when needed.

  • Responsible for the direction of the Endoscopy staff.
  • Provides general support to nursing staff and Outpatient Services Manager.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and hospital policy is followed
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, staff, Outpatient Services Manager and administrative team
  • In collaboration with the Infection Prevention and Control Committee Chairperson, develops, reviews and/or revises and implements all department policies and procedures related to the control of infections and communicable diseases on a concurrent basis
  • Follow up on incident reports and any adverse events. Collaborates on any staff discipline with Outpatient Services Manager and Human Resources
  • Assist in the maintenance of patient care equipment/supplies and evaluation of any patient care equipment/supply needs of the department
  • Assists the Outpatient Services Manager with policy implementation and development.
  • Determines staffing requirements and patterns, based on scope of services, complexity of patient acuity and fiscal resources
  • Demonstrates ability to assist physicians with procedures.
  • Cross-trained to all Endoscopy positions and fills into staffing requirements, including call, when needed.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities
  • Maintains performance improvement activities for the department and educates staff on them.
  • Able to plan and organize orientation and in-service training for unit staff members. Participates in guidance and educational programs. Coordinates education needs for the department.
  • Maintains department monthly schedules and call schedules.
  • Maintains employee time-sheets.
  • Assists with department monthly staff meetings.
  • Assists with employee evaluations.
  • Assists with employee disciplinary actions.

``` - Provides and controls supplies and equipment needed for successful operation of the Endoscopy Department. - Maintains monthly required documentation, i.e. crash cart records, refrigerator temperatures, blanket/fluid warmer temperatures - Assures quarterly chart audits are completed. - Coordinates staff rounding. - Assists with preference card edits. - Assists with EMR changes and needs. - Is assigned as the unit Charge RN for 75% or more of the working week (Charge RN job description attached below). - Completes other duties as assigned by the Outpatient Services Manager, Chief Nursing Officer, within the Board of Registered Nurses scope of nursing practice.

Education/Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Current ACLS and BCLS certification.
  • Two (2) years of nursing management experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in procedural nursing required, recent Endoscopy experience preferred.
