Program Overview:
KBR was selected to support the US Space Force/Air Force Research Laboratory’s ASTRO (Advanced Space Technology Research and Optimization) contract to provide mission equipment operations, maintenance, and upgrades to the USSF’s AMOS site in Maui, Hawaii. The AMOS site plays a vital role in national security by monitoring man-made objects in space and continuously developing next-generation capabilities to keep pace with the expanding space domain. This presents an incredible opportunity to push the boundaries of space and telescope technologies.
Position Overview:
This Telescope Data Specialist will be responsible for handling Photometric/Imaging Processing, Analysis, Dissemination, Archival, and associated reporting responsibilities for routine data collections. Requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and may require vocational / technical education or on-the-job training . Performs assignments that are standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work under supervision . Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
Works with custom SW applications to perform post-processing on AMOS Photometric/ Imaging data. This includes calibration, data cleaning, and establishing appropriate processing constraints to produce the best product. Archives and rapidly transmits data to customers.
May test new approaches for processing, disseminating and archiving data and provide feedback to technical staff on effectiveness of those approaches vs. established approaches.
Key Telescope Data Specialist Responsibilities:
Leads /conducts p rocess ing , archiv ing and disseminating routine data from 24/7/365 operations.
Assists operators/technical staff in establishing “ quicklook ” processing that can be used to rapidly identify/correct performance issues between passes.
Works with site engineering staff and SW developers to identify improvements in performance, effectiveness, efficiency and automation of routine processing.
Assists in reviewing data and identifying and flagging anomalies to mission planning lead and experts in imagery/photometry analysis.
Tracks and monitors data collection settings and environmental condition metrics. Uses this data to identify trends/quality issues in data collection activities.
Proactively engages imagery/photometry data end user satisfaction metrics and keeps TO lead apprised of trends. Works with TO lead to improve customer satisfaction based on metrics.
Mentors telescope and sensor operations staff in performing routine processing to ensure 24/7/365 coverage of processing needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
2 years ’ experience with complex image processing
1 year experience in customer/user support
A ctive Secret, with eligibility for TS/SCI is requ ired
Desired Qualifications:
Statistical and data analysis skills to identify trends in user data
Experience with Data Visualization tools
Experience working with databases
1 year Intelligence Imagery Analyst experience
Active TS/SCI
Compensation range:
$ 84,000-$126,000
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
Work Environment:
KBR supports work from home when compatible with meeting contract requirements . AMOS is a dynamic work environment, and this contract supports routine operations of and maintenance of mission equipment, as well as the need to respond to real-world events. To the extent possible, schedules are forecasted in advance, but upgrades, maintenance or significant tests require personnel to be present in the telescope facilities on Haleakala or Government’s Kihei office. Candidate must have effective verbal and written communication skills; must be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences or facilitate group discussions; develop accurate written materials to communicate information clearly and concisely.
