DJ & J Farms, Inc. Vegetable Harvester and Packer in King Ferry, New York

7 Fulltime H-2A Seasonal Jobs available 4/20/2024- 1/16/2025.

Crops/Commodities: vegetables, including, but not limited to, cabbage, green beans, summer squash, winter squash, pumpkins, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, and sweet corn.

Manually plant, cultivate, harvest and pack vegetables. Use hand tools, such as trowels, hoes and knives. Work on planter, planting roots, and seeds. Cultivate, weed and thin plants. Transplant plants by hand. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops to harvest them. Will tie vegetables in bunches or top them. Grade, size and package product. Apply pesticides, fertilizer and crop protectants. Place irrigation pipe and fittings. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. Will assist with general maintenance of buildings and grounds.

Workers are expected to perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Workers will assist in loading trucks with packaged product weighing up to and including 70 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers will perform tasks associated with packing vegetables, inspect vegetables, remove segregated vegetables from sorting stations, hand pack in boxes or bags. Stack packed vegetables, load/unload as needed. Workers will operate agricultural machinery/equipment essential to packing vegetables, including regular forklifts. Fork lift operator responsibilities will include delivering pallets of finished product to cold storage, loading/unloading as needed. Workers will be responsible for cleaning all machinery, electronic equipment and the facility work areas at end of shift. Workers must adhere to all Food Safety Protocols.

Employer-paid post-hire upon suspicion and post-accident drug testing required.

In addition, workers will be required to perform variable tasks such as the following: ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other tasks related to general farming.

Work will also include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators, weed eaters and other equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Maintain/repair farm implements, equipment and vehicles.

Workers with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but not limited to Driving While Intoxicated or Reckless Driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver's license may be required to drive company vehicles.

Requirements:

  • This job requires a minimum of 3 months of verifiable prior experience working on a diversified vegetable crop farm handling both manual and machine tasks associated with commodity production and harvest activities.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Lifting requirement of 70 lbs.
  • Repetitive movements, extensive walking and frequent stooping.
  • Post-hire drug screen, at employers expense.
