Responsibilities
As the CM&S Big Shop Superintendent, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of 2nd-level supervisors and professionals who are committed to safely and reliably supporting assets across Tennessee Operations (TNO) manufacturing. You will use your advanced leadership and technical abilities to drive safety, productivity, reliability, team development and quality. Through collaboration with cross-functional teams, you will prioritize team workload and drive continuous improvement. You will manage the interface between departments and boundary organizations including, but not limited to, operations, maintenance, engineering, business organizations, administrative areas and support services.
As a leader, you will coach your team members in leadership and behavioral competencies to deliver high impact results. You will be required to lead intentionally and continually build and improve organizational health to maximize employee engagement. You’ll serve as a member of the Eastman Management team and be an active member of the Centralized Maintenance and Services Division Leadership Team.
Key Responsibilities
Promote and support a Zero Incident Mindset work culture, including TNO first-responder responsibilities
Accountable to the State of Tennessee, ASME and the National Board for the repair, alteration and erection of boilers and pressure vessels. Similar responsibilities for valve repairs.
Deliver sustainable improvement in key result areas:
Continually improve safety culture and performance
Champion highest quality standards in fabrication, machining and valve repair
Turnarounds (safety, cost and schedule performance, playbook adherence)
Work Execution (Break-in %, schedule attainment)
Lead Planning and Scheduling staff and processes for M&R, capital and turnaround work
Provide strategic and forward-looking insights to TNO site and CM&S division for resource and cost planning to support business objectives
Serve as a technical resource for other sites and ensure department technical breadth and depth via staffing decisions
Manage costs and budget
Exhibit high bias for action and drive for effective execution. Develop relationships across functions to hold high influence with manufacturing partners and other stakeholders.
Champion change by balancing productivity and cost improvements while improving safety performance
Responsible for the culture and organizational health of the department
Lead, coach, mentor and develop teams
Focus on employee development, performance and satisfaction
Attract and retain craft talent via the Trainee and Work-Based Learning programs
Manage multiple Maintenance Apprenticeship and Structured Training programs, specialized to Shops department
Provide prioritization for contractor resources to support department objectives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering required. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
7+ years of maintenance leadership experience in chemical/petrochemical manufacturing required
Understanding of safe work processes; excellent personal safety history
Supervisory skills including staffing planning, budget control, understanding multiple work schedules and people development
Experience facilitating and resolving complex human resources issues
Leadership skills including setting goals, managing and communicating priorities and meaningful performance evaluations
General understanding of corporate Engineering Standards and Specifications
Knowledge of general office and field maintenance work practices such as planning and scheduling, rigging, pipe fitting, welding, rotating equipment repair, material coordination and fixed equipment repair
Capital project experience including generation of scope and estimate, design of items like plant layout and piping, equipment design and procurement and construction
Strong technical and problem-solving skill for mechanical design, failure analysis and maintenance troubleshooting
Familiarity with change management concepts
Excellent communication skills
Ability to influence and manage change and ability to work well with Manufacturing in a team environment
Ability to manage multiple projects with varied priorities and drive them to closure
Functional use of the corporate computer systems
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in life critical safety processes
Fluent in Safe Work processes, ESL waste stream processes and Industrial Hygiene monitoring processes
Technical & hands-on engineering experience in design and repair of rotating and fixed equipment
Proven success in driving safety performance improvement and improved safety culture across previous areas/teams
High familiarity with Asset Integrity program management
Proficiency in using SAP and other software tools
Experience hiring and developing the right talent and managing staffing to optimum levels in cost structure
Experience establishing trust and improving team performance and work practice through performance coaching
Situational expertise with administering coaching in all directions
Experience leading 2nd level supervisors or above
Outstanding record of good judgment in a fast-paced and complex environment
Ownership and successful completion of complex and/or large-scale projects
