Instructional Technologist I

Job Responsibilities

This entry-level position provides foundational support for instructional technology initiatives. The Instructional Technologist I assists with various tasks, coordinates with experienced colleagues, and develops their skills to transition towards more advanced responsibilities.

  • Assisting with research, planning, testing, and implementation of new technologies and services in the educational realm;
  • Assisting faculty, staff, and administration in the use of technology for education and related functions, often providing support in the process of discovering and articulating their needs;
  • Providing basic/limited support for students in the use of specialty technologies for curricular assignments and projects (e.g. podcast/videoconference studios, Anatomage lab, etc.);
  • Assisting colleagues and vendor partners to spec, implement, and test audiovisual/educational technology installations;
  • Developing and maintaining support documentation (written, online, or video);
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of technology-related workshops and training sessions;
  • Staying up-to-date on emerging educational technologies and trends;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • An associate degree or significant certification in fields that demonstrate expertise related to the job duties of this position (e.g. Educational Technology, Instructional Science, Education, Communication, Training)ORan equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired;
  • Strong communication skills which require the ability to maintain professionalism and empathy for audiences with wide-ranging technical skills;
  • Experience installing and supporting classroom technologies;
  • Interpersonal skills which provide for the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills with classroom technologies, could include, but not be limited to: AV control systems (e.g., Pixies), learning management system (e.g., D2L Brightspace), projector support (e.g.,NEC, Epson), web page construction/editing (e.g., WordPress), and videoconferencing (e.g., Zoom, Owl Labs);
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors to implement classroom/educational technology and audiovisual solutions;
  • Experience working with people having varying technical expertise and the demeanor required to explain technology to non-technologists;
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in the field of instructional technology;
  • Technical writing is a plus.
