We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator, Level II to play a crucial role in a successful civil construction projects.

This position is located Portsmouth Navy Shipyard in Kittery, ME

Responsibilities:

• Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforce a safe workplace.
• Performs minor maintenance of operated equipment including, checking fluid levels, greasing equipment, and reporting major repair problems to supervisor.
• Complete inspection reports of equipment.
• Complete assigned training in a timely fashion
• Strong work ethic
• Understanding of grade/slopes.
• Ability to solve problems and understand blueprints.
• Good communication skills to relay and receive information from appropriate field management for the current project/task.
• Good attention to detail.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Willingness to work through adverse weather.
• Fundamental understanding of rigging requirements.
• Can be fill in Lead Operator/Foreman if required

Qualifications:

• Must be experienced with running an excavator with most common attachments
• Must have underground utilities experience
• Willingness to teach less experienced craft to become more proficient and knowledgeable with their operating abilities.
• Basic knowledge of GPS systems and the willingness/ability to learn.
• CDL Class B a plus!
• Familiar with most common soil types, materials, and the ability to work with them effectively.
• The knowledge of soil classifications and the requirements for working with each.
• Utility experience on how to perform one or more of the roles associated with utility installation safely, efficiently, and productively.

Additional Requirements:

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; frequent opportunity to move about and to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind, rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds. If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to; hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Working Conditions

Job is performed in a combination of office and outdoor site locations. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Outdoor settings incl de walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
