Merchandising Golf Retail Manager - Destination Kohler

Opportunity

The Merchandising Golf Retail Manager is responsible for purchasing wholesale items for resale,

negotiating discounts, merchandising incoming inventory, and purchasing operating supplies within

the budget and profit margin plans.

The Merchandising Golf Retail Manager must be capable of performing all inventory processing

functions, which includes a thorough knowledge of the logistics of retail inventory and all related

systems.

The Merchandising Golf Retail Manager will assist the Sr MGR – Kohler Golf Retail, DK in the

selection of and management of all product lines offered.

The Merchandising Golf Retail Manager will oversee all merchandising efforts and assist with

procurement of golf retail merchandise as aligned with the Open-To-Buy (OTB). This position will be

responsible that orders are entered into the inventory management system in a timely manner.

The Merchandising Golf Retail Manager will assist the Sr MGR– Kohler Golf Retail, DK in the golf

retail marketing efforts, promotional efforts, advertising efforts, and execution of all resort retail

events.

Specific Responsibilities

Golf Retail Operations

  • Work closely with Sr. Manager – Kohler Golf Retail, DK to manage inventory control procedures to be consistent across all retail businesses.

  • Evaluate, purchase, and expedite goods and services within negotiated vendor contracts. Recommend new suppliers to Senior leadership to stay on brand with the Kohler Company and to reflect trends in retail.

  • Responsible for aligning with Senior Manager – Golf Retail, DK on product assortment for the product mix prior to ordering.

  • Responsible for entering all purchase orders into our inventory management system within a month of purchase, ensuring pricing, classifications, sub-classes, quantities and prices are accurate.

  • Plan for and write sales purchase orders, ensure receipt of product, and own the reconciliation of purchase orders that align with the Open-to-Buy.

  • Analyze daily sales and vendor sell-through to understand and react to trends. Make recommendations for additional orders (or cancelation of orders) based on the trend to senior leadership.

  • Lead all golf retail merchandising, product layout, and merchandise cadence on the sales floor to ensure optimal product placement. Work closely with Retail coordinators on the presentation, cleanliness, organization, and overall vibe of the retail shops.

  • Train golf shop staff and retail staff on product education, how to anticipate guest needs, and how to give gracious guest service.

  • Lead and manage inventory issues such as logo problems, late shipments, return-to-vendors, end of year returns, and assist Accounts Payable as needed.

  • Develop and maintain KPI’s for vendor performance. Make recommendations to Senior leadership on the overall supplier relationship based on the KPI’s.

  • Maintain records in Teams of current vendor lists (and contacts), payment terms, program discounts, supplier correspondences, and supplier performance data.

  • Assist with corporate group sales, Kohler internal groups, and selection of products for the online store.

  • Create goods or service requests (blanket PO’s) in ePro as directed.

  • Assist Senior Manager – Golf Retail, DK with developing and executing purchasing plans for Major Event logoed merchandise used for special events (Example: PGA Championship logo items).

Golf Retail Support Operations

  • Work with Sr. Manager – Kohler Retail, Operations and Marketing, DK on the management of inventory control procedures.

  • Hold regular updates with the Senior Manager – Golf Retail, DK to gain alignment on financial planning, long-range strategy, open-to-buy management, and inventory management. Stay within pre-determined annual budget and spend provided.

  • Work on the sales floors and have regular updates with the retail coordinators and retail staff to understand consumer demand and feedback.

  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance for Point of Sale (POS) and Inventory Control software to ensure accuracy in transactions, inventory, and revenue/margins.

  • Coordinate and assist Retail Leaders on price changes, inventory levels, receiving practices, and reconciliation of on hand product audits to what is listed in the inventory management software.

Financial Management

  • Assist the Sr. Manager, Golf Retail, DK to create and manage annual budgets, forecasts, operating expenses for golf retail outlets and Kohler Internal Merchandise department.

  • Assist the Sr. Manager, Golf Retail, DK on forecasting and developing retail plans for large special events with industry partners (such as USGA, PGA, etc.)

  • Partner with Group Sales for the cross promotion of Group Golf Events and Sales

Retail Receiving and Inventory Management

  • Lead all physical inventory counts for all Golf Retail businesses, with the assistance of retail coordinators.

  • Lead and manage procurement issues, such as delivery issues, order timeliness issues, damages, logo issues, and communicate directly with vendors on resolution.

  • Assist central receiving team with ticketing incoming inventory and assist with the delivery of product to the location.

  • This position will not be receiving inventory in dataworks or posting payment due to the segregation of duties.

  • Assist with shop coverage as needed.

  • Participate in industry associations and seminars to stay ahead of industry trends and ensure ongoing competitive retail design and offerings.

  • Define ongoing initiatives to remain competitive and to achieve industry recognition.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Retail Merchandise, Fashion Design, or related field.

  • 7+ years of retail management or buying experience.

  • Previous golf industry experience is preferred.

  • Previous experience within luxury brands is preferred.

  • Thorough understanding of accounting and inventory principles.

  • Understanding of financial forecasts and budgets.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years managing vendor selection and price negotiations.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • May be required to travel domestically and internationally.

The salary range for this position is $74,000 - $93,500. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
