RightSteps Child Development Centers Assistant Teacher in Lafayette, Indiana

As a distinguished non-profit organization, we specialize in delivering top-tier early education across Tippecanoe (Lafayette, West Lafayette), Jasper (Rensselaer, Remington), and Newton (Goodland) Counties, operating seven licensed child care centers.

Right now, we are seeking dedicated and passionate Assistant Teachers to join our team:

As an Assistant Teacher, you'll partner closely with the lead teacher to create a supportive haven for children and families. Enrich young minds by contributing to developing and implementing the Right Steps curriculum, nurturing social-emotional growth, and catering to individual learning needs. Your dynamic role involves active participation in diverse activities, contributing significantly to the classroom's triumph. You will have the chance to step into the lead role during brief absences, developing the necessary skills for the next step in your professional career and showing your versatility.

Our ideal candidate is someone who genuinely loves working with children and possesses the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent

  • Highly desirable: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, associate, or bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field.

  • A minimum of 6 months prior experience working with children in a childcare environment is highly valued.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and children

  • Patience, empathy, and understanding to meet the individual needs of each child

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide quality care and continuous supervision of children.

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in the development and execution of curriculum and lesson plans.

  • Assist children with self-care activities to ensure their health and safety needs are met, such as sleep/wake, routines, personal cleanliness, and bathroom routines, meal and snack service, etc.

  • Assist with center and classroom record keeping and observations in compliance with the program's policies and procedures.

  • Greet parents, children, and visitors and provide information and feedback as needed.

  • Provide general classroom support by performing housekeeping duties as assigned.

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure classroom environment.

  • Assist the lead teacher to ensure all licensing and accreditation required materials are compiled and maintained as needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all staff, child, and family information as required by law and Agency policy and exercise appropriate discretion.
