Trinity Health Cardiac Telemetry Technician (Part Time, Night Shift)- St Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania

Description:

Position based out of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA.

The main function of the cardiac telemetry technician is to: observe cardiac rhythms displayed on central station monitors, interpret patient's cardiac rhythms, document measurements on rhythm strips, respond to alarms and notify the registered nurse of heart rate and rhythm changes.

  • Performs real-time observation of patient heart rate & rhythm on central station ECG monitors. Troubleshoots for quality ECG tracings. Faulty leads or electrode placement, battery function and signal transmission.

  • Initiates and discontinues telemetry monitoring for admission, transferred and discharged patients. Suspension of monitoring as appropriate.

  • Assures accurate screen entry of patient identification information as defined.

  • Verifies Alarm limit settings at shift change and maintains appropriate settings

  • Responds to alarms timely. Silences alarm. Evaluates rhythm creating alarm timely.

  • Notifies RN if indicated. Communicates EMERGENCY and NON –EMERGENCY rhythm changes to RN as defined per policy. Demonstrates use of the escalation process Documents rhythms changes. Documents RN notifications.

  • Documents individual patient alarm parameters.

  • Prints rhythm strips and accurately documents: Measured PR interval, Measured QRS interval, Measured QT interval, Measured heart rate. Legible rhythm interpretation, comments and signature.

  • Delivers printed ECG tracings (routine and changes) to nursing units via designated system timely.

  • Performs hourly checks by: Reviewing stored patient data. Comparing previous ECG tracings and real-time patient rhythm. Evaluating trends for any changes.

  • Demonstrates communication of patient care in assignment.

  • Reports variations affecting patient monitoring to Nursing Manager/Supervisor. Documents events in log book or tracking tool.

  • Maintains and tracks system components-changing paper in printers, spare Telepack usage, etc. Reports malfunction of equipment promptly to Biomed or Help desk. Anticipates and maintains supply needs.

  • Organizes and prioritizes duties. Asks for help when needed. Completes daily routine.

  • Performs other duties as assigned including charge role as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate/Equivalent

  • Successful completion of dysrhythmia course

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical School/1 Year College

  • 2-4 years experience
